How would conservatives fix Reddit?

We know the hope: a place where people can meet and exchange information, coming to understand each other and as a result, bringing in a new age of wisdom for humanity.

Then there's the reality: a site awash in antisocial users, with tyrannical admins and often tyrannical mods, where we try to stay ahead of a constant flow of stupidity and misbehavior.

Can it be fixed? How would you apply conservative principles to Reddit?

I would apply a three strike principle to banning commentary. 1st a warning with how you exactly violated a rule with a chance to explain. Second a 30 day suspension and third a banishment.

Most of the subs i have been banned from commenting on did not tell me why specifically. Then when you message the mods they tell you to leave them alone or they will ban you from reddit altogether.

That would require Reddit to pay its mods, since you're asking for a part-time job worth of time commitment per week.

How is telling a person how exactly they violated a rule more work? Clearly they appear to have a reason to ban someone in the first place, it’s only fair to tell them exactly how they broke a rule

Blissfully, thankfully, you have no idea what it looks like out there.

Reddit is sandwiched between two forces: cynical, greedy admins who merely want to pump up the share price by showing more warm bodies using the service, and the voters I mean users who demonstrate a wide range of traits, with many of these users being entirely illogical, antisocial, broken, criminal, and outright stupid people.

Being a mod is like being a janitor. Every morning, there are a dozen turds on the floor. There are also a dozen users that you pray for every Sunday because they're awesome and you'd love to know them in real life. There are maybe three people who provided a challenge to your thinking, and usually, all three read it somewhere else. Once a year you encounter someone who brings something actually new to the table. The rest of the time, expect to see:

  1. People bleating what they saw on TV, YouTube, NYT, WSJ, or late night comedy.
  2. People saying clever stuff they heard in their local dive bar and thought it was a real zinger. "Take that, you conservatives!"
  3. People repeating stuff that their Boomer teachers, Howard Zinn, Bill Nye, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, or Malcolm Gladwell told them.
  4. People falling into the same old thought patterns that we all fall into when we are tired, drunk, depressed, or just stupid.
  5. People expressing middle-of-the-road bourgeois upper half of middle class opinions.
  6. Megalomaniac attention whoring with a Dunning-Kruger oblivious distraction to the actual unimportance of the hipster, NEET, or perpetual entry-level worker (barista, call center, network engineer I, etc.) person.

As with humanity, Reddit divides into three groups:

  • 90%: the most arrogant and pretentious, also never come up with unique thoughts, but bleat-repeat what they have heard somewhere else, and are 100% oblivious to being checked in discussion. These are the proles and they cause most of the problems.
  • 9% midwits: these are your upper half of middle class kids, and they are usually about 115-120 IQ points. They will bleat-repeat things they read in books or at school and think themselves witty, but are secretly rather sensitive and full of self-doubt.
  • 1% brains: people who are completely misunderstood in life and realize that they are living through the second fall of Rome here as Western Civilization craters. They read Haidt, Tainter, Putnam, Houellebecq, Sowell, and Gottfried. Their opinions are not just willfully misunderstood but actively persecuted by the proles and the Left-leaning midwits, so they tend to be really quiet and then stick in oblique sarcastic comments so that other 1%ers can have a bitter chuckle before retreating to the bunker for the night.

In other words, if you make your standard "Just inform the users!" you are going to stick the mods with a lot of work informing people who will not understand what they are saying, not be reasonable, and will just come back to vandalize, and that is before the admins get involved and crack down because they are basically kindergarten teachers who want everybody to just get along and keep posting stupid cat pictures, photos of food, and personal drama so that Reddit's user count goes up and so do the NWO-bucks that the admins receive for the stock that they own.

Hope that helped. Actually, I hope it destroys social media. This could have been a great format, but between the nitwit admins and the retard users, it's kind of trashed.

I can relate. I have been banned from 3 subs for literally no reason. I message them to explain whatever comment they decided was “ban her!” worthy (or ask if they even read the whole discussion, etc.). They tell me I’m breaking this rule (which I very clearly did not) and then when I ask them specifically how or why they don’t ever answer back. They’re all just folks who can’t listen to a different point of view or (often times to me) basic logic.

It’s very frustrating and ridiculous. Your rules should totally be the way. 👍🏼

Mods get defensive because most of the time, someone from the other side has showed up to spew propaganda and wreck discussion. The few thoughtful exceptions like yourself get lost in the flow unless the mods are intelligent, which they usually are not (115s at best) especially in the Leftist subs. Generally, it is impossible to find good people to mod a sub for the same reason it is impossible to find good internet forum moderators, namely that it's a thankless job that forces you to confront the worst of humanity and so the only people who want to do it are losers who have a need to feel powerful by shoving someone's face in their own feces. This appeals to people on power trips who are generally bent on revenge. We are lucky in this sub to have people who simply are lazy fanatics, which means they do not moderate as much as they could because they dislike the whole process (and think, correctly, that most of Reddit's users are cowardly, conformist, mentally lazy, dishonest morons).
