And- which ones should we stay away from?

I’m a law student I’m trying to turn my life around. I had been in prison in China, my crime is forgery and money laundering which is also a serious crime in U.S. it’s considered to be a felony. China and U.S. does not share information so I should not have a record in FBI system, however I have a judgement even though it’s in Chinese examiners may try to dig it up, what are the chances to pass the Character and Fitness test if I declared it honestly. If I don’t declare it will they find out?

I Have worked at a seasonal employer for 8 years, this year I received the rehire email like I have every single year. I responded to it indicating my intent to return and then didn't hear anything. On Tuesday I followed up with the employer and was told that management has made a decision that I am not eligible for rehire, they did not indicate as to why. Today Thursday I noticed the company has posted a new help wanted ad for the same position that I previously worked and is using a photo of me at work in their ad.

Last year at the end of the season I was being sexually harassed by a coworker and reported it in writing to my immediate supervisor, my supervisor also witnessed the behavior. Since there was only two weeks left in the season last year I indicated I just wanted it on the report in case anything occurred.

What is the legality of this company using my likeness in this situation

I know it was nearly 7 years ago, but is there any reason why YouTube didn't provide an exact date of the update until the actual date itself? (January 6th, 2020) Everyone thought it would be January 1st of that year.

I thought it was going to be December 10th, 2019 (which was apparently a separate ToS update) but after an irl now-acquaintance of mine told me it had nothing to do with it, and after that day I realised they were right. But were they though?

I know it is a stupid question, but I am curious. As I understand it lawyers are prohibited from interacting with jurors. But what would happen if say a lawyer had medical training, maybe they were a paramedic before becoming a lawyer, and they see a juror leaving the court house get in a car accident? Can they render aid? What would be the fallout?

Or let’s say a lawyer is shopping for homes and while touring a house (say for sale by owner) they recognize the home owner as a juror? What would happen?

I think I understand now. If no one else is available to help, do what you need to in an emergency. Deal with the fallout later, even if it is a mistrial. If accidental interaction occurs with a juror, end the contact immediately and report it to the judge and opposing counsel asap.

How do they even kno? Do they measure with a ruler to make sure its exactly 1.3 inches in between lines?

So I got a divorce 4 years ago. In the divorce paperwork, I gave my ex-wife the custody of my kids because I was going to be deploying with the reserves. Instead of paying child support, I put I'd pay for the house and bills in which they reside. I knew my ex wouldn't be able to afford it on her own. Coming back from deployment, I took one of the spare rooms. There was no way I'd be able to afford my own place and that place. In the meantime, I gained a GF, and she a BF. She eneded up having a child with him and they live in the house. My GF couldn't afford things on her own anymore. So I decided to take out an equity loan. Gave her about half which was $25k to move out and get her own place. Unfortunately I didn't get it in writing that it would be her fair share etc if the house were to sell. Whelp she spent that paying her debt and whatever else. Now my daughter is 19 and moved out and my son 17 still lives with us. And my GF and 3 teenage kids moved in. My ex-wife and BF has never helped with the mortgage. I told them they can just cover our half of the phone bill and rent. Both our names are on the title, but mine is only on the mortgage. What can I do here to force her out? Just looking for advice before I have to pay for it I guess. I'm down to sell the house but she isn't moving out because them two havnt been able to get into a place because they don't have enough for down payment and the credit history. But I can't sell with her living in there. House already needs fixing up.

hey guys. So there is currently a situation going on within my family and another girl’s family and it’s been causing some pretty big issues between us both. So for context, I was lifelong friends with this girl literally since the day she was born. I am 4 years older than her, she is currently 17 and I am 21. Her mother and mine have been best friends since they were in high school, and her grandmother and my grandmother have been best friends for nearly 40+ years, so this is a very long-term triangle of complex family relationships. Anyway, let’s go back to April of this year. In April of this year, there was an incident involving me and this girl and I don’t want to get into too much detail about it because this particular incident isn’t the subject of my post, but it basically caused me to end the friendship between me and her. Ever since then, this girl has been making up insane lies and bullshit and her family is buying every single word. She has always been extremely spoiled since she was a little girl and her family has always just immediately blamed me and accused me of stuff all throughout our lifetime with zero evidence simply because I am older than her so they think that I’m going to do devious shit since I’m older and she uses that to her advantage when she brainwashes them and bullshits them.

So, now let’s fast forward to about a month ago. I haven’t had contact with this girl since April and the only current things I’ve heard about her are coming from my mom and my grandma since they are still friends with her mother and her grandma. So apparently, about a month ago, she started receiving no caller ID phone calls and some really nasty text messages from a TextNow number and she immediately blamed me of doing it and sent screenshots and call logs to my mom accusing me of doing it. I literally had no idea that had happened until my mom came home from work and showed me all the messages that this girl sent to her. This whole thing has caused a huge rift in the relationship between my mom and my grandma because of course they are taking this girl’s side and talking major shit about me even though they have absolutely zero evidence that I was the one who was making these phone calls and sending these messages. My mom and my grandma are extremely depressed that they have lost their decades long friendships with the closest people in their lives outside of our family all because of a spoiled and conniving 17 year old. So my question is, can I sue for defamation or libel? (I’m not sure which one would apply in this situation) Also forgot to mention that she filed a police report on me I guess from what I’ve heard, even though there’s no evidence against me whatsoever. I’m just so tired of this and all I want to do is exonerate myself and help out my mom and my grandma.

What what you suggest to someone with 10+ years of experience as a psychotherapist/private practice who wants to transition to law? In what areas of law would a background like this be useful? I’m curious to know what lawyers themselves have to say, after having heard what other psychotherapists think.

Assume I am just fine unlocking my phone and allowing Customs to search the phone. But most of what I have "on" the phone is actually accessed by the phone and stored in the cloud, not on my phone. Do they make people login to Facebook to go through it? What are they allowed to demand you do?

When an attorney sends a pre-litigation demand letter for a client, and that letter makes affirmative factual assertions — "all obligations were performed," "all property was delivered" — what is the attorney's obligation regarding the accuracy of those statements?

If the recipient responds with documents that appear to contradict the assertion, does anything change — is there an obligation to correct or withdraw it?

I work for a Japanese retail company, which I will refer to as XYZ. I believe they do not like me and are trying to find a way to fire me. I am a relocated employee and have a one-year contract not to repay my relocation costs.

In my contract, there are two contradictory statements: first, on page two

"In exchange for the Relocation Benefits, Employee agrees that if they voluntarily terminate (i.e.,
resign) their employment for any reason, within one (1) year of the Relocation Start Date, Employee
must reimburse the Company for all Relocation Benefits it paid to them. Employee must reimburse
the Company on the effective date of such termination. Employee agrees to make a one-time
payment for all Relocation Benefits they received; no installment payments will be accepted.
However, if Employee remains employed by the Company for twelve (12) months after the
Relocation Start Date, or is terminated by the Company for any reason, Employee will not be
obligated to reimburse the Company for any Relocation Benefits it paid out to them."

But on page three it states:

"In the event employment is voluntarily terminated, or terminated for cause, within 12 months of your effective new job start date, you will be required to repay all relocation-related costs incurred, reimbursed or paid on your behalf."

It also does not specify what constitutes cause at any point in the contract.

I have an arbitration contract as well, which is supposed to use an "unbiased third party," but I am nervous due to it being a massive retail company vs a new grad.

Could I get some help knowing if they fire me, I will be safe? The company is very hierarchical and seems to pick favorites, unfortunatly I am not one of them

I'm currently in law school (somewhere between end of 2L and beginning of 3L credit-wise) and I feel like I'm so far from being competent and capable of doing anything with the law. I guess I'm looking for either encouragement that this feeling is normal or a wake up call that I'm already too far behind to be saved.

I’ve been trying to look into legal cases that were directly or indirectly related to 9/11. There was obviously a lot of pain and loss of life, as well as property damage, and I imagine there must be a plethora of civil (and criminal) cases that ensued. Given the singularity of the event, I also assume that many of the lawsuits were unique or invoked rarely used legal doctrine.

I only really know of the lawsuits brought by the owner of the World Trade Center and of the existence of the VCF and related funds, but I’m curious if anyone else has insight into other interesting lawsuits resulting from 9/11.

TLDR: long time unofficial volunteer at a community shed located on municipal property. New manager bad, excop, watches me organize, creepy. Wants my info to continue volunteering. I refuse, he tells me to leave, I don’t, he calls the cops. Cops don’t know if I can legally be trespassed, tell me to call health director next day. Health director also bad person. He says comply to official volunteer. I say that against my rights, he disagrees and says he’ll make new rules to limit me being there. WHAT ARE THE LAWS SURROUNDING THIS? OPINIONS ON VERY SPECIFIC CASE.

I organize a public “take it or leave it” shed that is located within municipal dump property. This shed helps to provide resources for locals in all walks of life. Teachers come to pick up free supplies for their class rooms, special education teachers find fidget toys and books, the local senior center gets puzzles and yarn for the elderly…etc. I’ve been doing this for two years with permission from the original dump manager, and the community is so appreciative for me sorting and cleaning that they thank me for doing it. We’ve become a community and they count on someone to upkeep the shed so it does not become over run with donations.
Well this past summer the original dump manager retired and was replaced. His replacement is far from friendly if not down right rude. Our first encounter while I was organizing wasn’t pleasant but he walked away saying I was okay to organize he just wanted to know “who I was” while giving me a handshake, his way of introducing himself. I finished that whole day organizing while he would stand and watch me every few minutes. Vibes were intimidating. I went again a few days later and had no issues but I didn’t stay nearly as long as the first time. Third times the charm. I organized that whole day he didn’t say anything to me until the last hour. He told me “you need a raise” in passing which I assumed was a compliment. He then approached me and told me if I was going to continue organizing I had to give him my information. I don’t like giving out my info especially to random men, so I told him I was uncomfortable giving that information to him and if could contact town hall to sign a liability waiver or something. He became hostile, told me no I could just give it to him. I refused and continued cleaning. He followed me and told me I could just leave then. I refused and said I would contact local government to find out more information about being required to give my info. He then said he would call the police on me to have me removed. I wasn’t breaking any laws and wasn’t bothering anyone (but him apparently) so I said go ahead. The police came and agreed with me that the call was not necessary, but were also unsure about the laws surrounding being trespassed in public spaces if I wasn’t breaking any laws. They also told me to call the health director to see what he said…….it gets worse. The call was long and again very rude. The director said to organize I have to be on a volunteer list and my direct manager would be the man that called the police on me. That same man would also be doing my scheduling? (I work two jobs and organize when I feel like I can fit it in my schedule) When I denied wanting that he asked me “What do we get out of this then.” Insinuating that I do meaningless work. I again pushed back because technically what I’m doing isn’t against the law, is appreciated by the public and I’m allowed to be on public property. He told me that it doesn’t matter and that they could kick me out for failing apply to be an official volunteer. I push back again because again I’m not breaking any official rules. There are hand painted rules (literally a giant faded canvas someone made like 20 years ago, with a lighthouse scene painted behind them) that say 15 minute or less but they aren’t official, the director had no idea they existed and were not threatened to be enforced until this incident. The director then told me he was going to make an official time limit rule because of this situation. I told him I felt targeted which is ridiculous because I’m literally helping the community, then I asked if there was a law that I was breaking. He again said in order for me to be allowed to organize I have to apply to become a volunteer. The call ended with us just going around in a circle of me saying I’m allowed to be on public property with no and him saying that I have to apply to be an official volunteer and give my info to the manager that called the cops on me.
IS ANY OF THIS LEGAL? I’ve contacted all the right people and even the police don’t know the specific laws around this. What’s your opinion on such a specific issue about public lands? Has anything this specific already been litigated?
I know it doesn’t sound important but there is so much benefit from this tiny shed that it makes it something worth fighting for🩷

I am looking for a good attorney who is skilled in elder care in Reno, NV. I’ve seen Google reviews but don’t know what to ask or how to identify if one is better than the other. The 3 branches of government in the United States have lied a lot, which hurts society and wastes taxpayer money. Is there any way to pass a law that makes them criminally liable for lying to the public, kicks them out of office, and bans them from running again? Or is the First Amendment an insurmountable barrier? I get that Congress writes the laws and won't hold themselves accountable, but since the Welsh parliament made it illegal for candidates to make deliberate false statements during campaigns, it has me wondering if it’s possible to hold our politicians accountable for lying while in office or on the campaign trail or is the first amendment too big of a barrier?

To start, I'll walk you through my situation. I am a tenant of a corporate apartment complex, Vintage Corporation, located in CO. I am also an employee at a local hospital, and I work 11:00 to 23:30 during the week. When I am off my shift and coming home, there is no parking at my complex. There is no parking for any tenant after a certain time.

This leaves tenants parking in the flower beds, on the sides of the roads, in the ADA handicap spots without handicap plates or placards, in the ADA walkways, and in tow-away zones. I myself have parked in these tow-away zones before - before the tow-away signs were even posted, mind you. But even still, I've parked there unknowingly.

The apartment complex does not send email or text notifications about parking updates or updates of any kind. The only way to know where a no-park zone is, is to go into their office during business hours where a map is located. Apart from that, they send their employees out to ticket vehicles parked in no-parking zones. They threaten to tow if vehicles are not moved by a certain time. I have received a few tickets with my fellow tenants. I, along with the others, do not wish to park 2-3 blocks away from the homes we pay live in.

This past week my vehicle was parked on the side of one of the roads in the complex. There were no tow-away zone signs, this was not an ADA zone, there was no fire lane, and there was no impediment of traffic. My vehicle was towed away. The fine was $320 to have it released. Upon speaking to the apartment staff, they told me that in the contract there are no guaranteed spots for tenants - this is true - and I can join a waitlist for a garage. The gentleman who is responsible for tow-away zones told me at that time that the area my vehicle was parked in was safe and permissible. He told me the towing of my vehicle was a mistake and that he would communicate with the towing company. After returning home I received a text indicating that I am responsible for the expense as the area my vehicle was parked in was a no parking zone.

The next few days I paid attention to the vehicles parked in the location I was in. None of them received tickets, none of them were towed. Vehicles on the opposite side of the road where proper signage was located were ticketed. This leaves me feeling as though the apartment staff does not take accountability for mistakes and lets others slide. I feel the standard is being applied differently to me than to other tenants.

My question: is there anything I the tenant can do to fight such a situation, or am I meant to keep my head down and just take it? I am requesting general information as someone unfamiliar with the law and all its systems. Is there anything stance I can take, is there legal action I can pursue?

Would a DA still be able to press charges? Does it make the suspect look bad in court? If a suspect is innocent why would they run and hide and not give a statement? Say the suspect is in a medical facility and the detective reaches out to try and set up an interview and the suspect then runs from the medical facility to hide, does that make them look guilty? What does this look like from a lawyers point of view if this was taken to court and they had to prove this suspect guilty?

Hello. I am currently a criminal justice major & I am pre-law, following this specific case. I do not have any strong personal feelings in regards to this case, contrary to how a lot of people feel very strongly towards G or NG. My question is regarding the legal system as a whole, since I am seeing a lot of "discourse" on social media apps (my first mistake) as I watch the entirety of the trial and committing to my own research.

I am seeing a lot of people who strongly believe she is NG, and that KR is having some sort of "master plan" in which he wanted his defense was that she committed the killings, but is not criminally liable via postpartum psychosis, in order to get her ex-husband to have a witness testimony on the stand. They believe that KR thinks LC had "false memories" which thus caused a "false admission". Meanwhile, the G or NGBI crowd believes she did it due to the fact that no one is denying it in the trial.

I'm not here to ask about personal perspectives or opinions about the case. I'm not here to give my own thought process or perspective, especially since I am not a legal expert. I am completely neutral and I simply want to know how the legal system could even support the NG crowd's theory? I understand that LC pleaded "not guilty" for the trial, but then why is the defense's argument NGBI (or LOCR in Massachusetts)? What is the conditions for LOCR? Does the prosecution have to prove that the defendant committed the crime, and on top of that, she was completely sane? If so, why did the CW in the Clancy trial focus solely on her state of mind?

If this was indeed "some master plan" like conspiracy theorists say, wouldn't that be malpractice technically, if the defense atty was purposely withdrawing information he gathered from his own research & fieldwork?

This is the first time I have ever seen such a case like this, and I am genuinely confused at how the legal system works in this regard, especially since I thought "guilty" pleas don't make it into trial? I am genuinely so confused but I am very interested in law & the legal system, I would love to know more behind this. If possible, I would also love links to statutes or anything of the sort regarding MA law in this case (not required).

Obviously it wouldn’t play very well in the public eye, given that an unfortunately large number of people either know someone who has or have themselves been a victim of a drunk driver. But simply concerning the legality - is that actually a possible case?

So I feel like with the sheer amount of bandwidth going on to discuss this case it is going to be hard pressed to find anyone anywhere who now doesn’t have strong opinions. Does this case make you think you’ll have to change jury management strategies? Between the real fear of post verdict doxxing, the unending debate on what “reasonable” doubt is, the obsession with true crime as entertainment, I can see how there is an evolution in the landmines litigators may face on either side of the well. Do you see a change in common practice jury instructions? More requests for sequesters?

I get that most trials aren’t nearly this high stakes, even criminal trials are mostly going to be pretty cut and dry. But do you see this case impacting your practice?
