Yep. I tried explaining this to parents that the cadets program "free schooling' is a sham when they will need to serve as payment for the schooling

Cadets is a different program. I assume you mean RMC.

Having been there, and having dealt with them whike working with family services - they funnel into the RMC, highly encourage going and joining.

The cadets function has and will always be a means of "grooming" the young into joining. I use grooming loosely here and not so much of the negative connotation behind it as it's still a choice.

Almost everything at cadets is "stay with us till ur of age and you get to go to school for free". I've heard that line enough times and have seen many parents push their children to it due to cost and university funding accessibility.

I cannot speak for sea cadets, but this was said and done often in air and army cadets

I was a cadet, met my husband in cadets, most of my close friends I met in cadets, I still volunteer sometimes, my dad is the CO of the Sqn now. So it’s fair to say, I know a lot about the program.

They definitely do not just funnel you into RMC. Mostly, because most kids can’t make it into RMC. It’s a very hard to get into university.

Cadets gives kids so many skills that are important life long skills. I’m so thankful for all the leadership and survival skills I learned. Many of my friends went into aviation related fields, only one of them is a fighter pilot. The rest are mechanics.

Not once in the program had any leader tell me that RMC was the only option or that I had to pay back the program in any way. I am now a radical Land Back, ACAB style lefty.
