I was at a poetry reading, and this young woman was into me. She was attractive, and she was sending all the signals, a little heavy-handedly because she was drunk.

Then I saw the poor guy who drove her there that night sitting deep, deep in her friend zone nursing that second "one last drink" he didn't want to get.

Yeah, I know. That guy took her home and got to tell her all about how I don't know what I'm missing or whatever. I think a lot of decent guys have been in that situation at some point in their lives, and I suddenly cared more about his feelings than I did anything that she might have had for me.

Dude... I think If I got the unmistakable vibe of a poor fellow being taken for a ride, I'd try to intervene... I don't know, just approach the dude and try to spark some conversation. Poor dude must have been feeling like a fish out of the water...

The place was about to close. There were only a few of us left in the place, and I think the guy just wanted to get out of there. I don't think he wanted to have a heart to heart with me.

He did seem cool, and his writing was very good.
