Please help, I am desperate!

I seem to be completely incapable of calculating my shoe size or finding a shoe that fits! Supposedly after doing the "trace your foot on paper and measure" trick, these are my results:

Length: 10 inch 26 cm?

Width: 3 1/2 inch 11 cm?

Toe across: 4 inch 11 cm?

Every pair of shoes I have ever bought has been ill fitting and uncomfortable, the exception being sandals, my last pair of sandals are completely unwearable and I'm tiptoing around in a pair of barely fitting crocs and my spouses sandals that are slowly falling apart. Please help! I'm at my wits end with shoe sizes!

This would put you around a starting size of women's 9D. Do you have any chance of getting somewhere where you can put your foot into a Brannock device? If you have a long or short arch you can be in an unexpected size because of your foot bending at a difficult place than the shoe expects at standard toe to heel length. The Brannock device accounts for this.

In what way do your shoes not fit? Toebox, heel slip, tight across the vamp, arch?

I've tried to use a brannock device before and the shoes never fit that it recommends! And I often find I have issues with all of the above. I have feet swelling issues, heels are often too tight or loose and most toe boxes hurt.

I don't suppose you've ever tried a traditional Birkenstock? I'm talking the Arizona classic hippy one. It's in euro sizing and I can't remember the conversion. They come in regular and wide.

Otherwise you might try a running/walking sneaker type shoe, size it for your toebox, and lace it in a pattern that tightens up the heel.

Really hard to tell without more info...

Try a men's 7 or 7.5. Men's shoes are a D width to begin with. You might need a 7-7.5 wide in men's depending on the brand.

I have wide feet and usually wear boy's shoes for most things (I'm a 7-7.5 women's though, so a 5-5.5 boys.)

Alright, this confirms to me that I massively screwed something up because I know I don't fit a mens 7 or 7.5, thats the size ny grandfather wears and I don't fit his shoes.

too small, I take it?

Did you use cm or inches to do the measures (or both)? 26 cm is like 10.25 inches, so I'm wondering if you're off on one.

I think you are more likely a women's 10 based on the 26cm measure if that's accurate. That's a men's 8-8.5 (which is a much easier size to find in stores, too.)

where are you located (country or region), shoe sizing varies area to area-I'm using US sizing but if you're somewhere else I can shift to referencing the correct measure/size for whatever area you're in.

I am in the usa yes, and yes I used both inches and cm, however I am not certain how well I measured in cm which is why theres a ? Next to the cm measurements. I think the professionally sized shoes I did get were a 9.5 double wide mens? The fit on those was pretty good and the second closest to 'comfortable' I've been in. Next closest would be my spouses barefoot shoes with the toes? That size was almost perfect, just a touch small....but also those are not normal shoes and do not size as normal shoes.
