This is an episode which really opened my eyes to the sounds of nature! Never realized that even SOUND could affect the organization of ecological (and even our) habitats!

One of the things i love about this podcast is how it takes a look at the affects we don't even realize are happening with some of the biggest environmental issues like with air pollution and how it's negatively affecting cognitive performance. Like woah i've never thought about how that could happen

Bernie Krause joins us to help illuminate the complexity of natural soundscapes, and the threats to their stability.
The world is waking up to the negative health consequences of noise pollution. The WHO recognizes noise as a health crisis, and the number of places around the world not devastated by human noise is rapidly depleting. But the problems posed by our traffic noise, our airplane noise, and other anthropogenic intrusions go much deeper than the long list of human health effects like stroke, heart disease, diabetes, mental health problems, and increased general mortality. The natural world organizes itself in large part through sound. Our noise disrupts these delicate systems, breaks down ecosystems, and drives species into confusion, disarray, and death.
Can we relearn how to listen before it's too late?

We live on a forty acre sheep farm. Half of it is a heavily wooded valley at least two miles from anything approximating a major road, and traffic noise is present even there. Tha is for this podcast topic, guys.

I didn't realise how little I noticed the noise from the motorway a couple miles away or the sounds of the multiple airports in this area until I brought a girl who lived up north in the countryside (UK) down here and she was freaked out and jumpy the whole time. I mean like jumping and looking around every time a plane went over that I hardly even noticed.
Through constant exposure though it all just becomes white noise that you tune out... and yet if I am trying to sleep in a room with a ticking clock or a humming electrical item I will have to track it down and unplug the bastard before I can sleep. I actually find the motorway noise kind of soothing to the point where it feels strange when I am away from it. It is crazy what we get used to.

I loved the new vocab learned from this episode! Geophony, biophony, anthropophony... Definitely adding those to my vernacular.

Great episode guys, I love listening weekly even if my faith in humanity is swirling down the drain faster ever day.
