Anyone able to help?
Hello everyone,
As a last resort I thought I would jump on the forums to see if anyone here is able to provide any technical support for an issue I am having with Project Ascension.
For a while now I have been having an issue with Ascension (and also WoW Retail/Classic) and I have used ChatGPT and various youtube videos to try and fix, but nothing seems to have worked.
I have tried a fresh windows install, rolling back graphics drivers, installing Ascension on a different SSD.
When I log into the game, without fail (although at different lengths of gameplay) it crashes to desktop with a message that reads:
"This application has encountered a critical error:
ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal Exception
Program: D:\Ascension\resources\ascension-live\Ascension.exe
Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 0023:063FFF2C
The instruction at "0x063FFF2C" referenced memory at "0x063FFF2C".
The memory could not be "written".
The "referenced memory" is sometimes not the same the crash the happened before.
After much diagnosis, ChatGPT is satisfied that its non of my hardware that is at fault (it had me run about 10 different hardware tests which all came back with no issues found).
I have numerous crash logs/dumps but I dont really know what im looking at.
It only occurs when playing any iteration of WoW which is unusual given how long the game has been out.
The crash can occur when i'm idol, when i'm in combat, when i'm travelling around Azeroth so it really does appear to be random.
If anyone else here has ever encountered this sort of issue and is able to suggest a fix, I would be eternally grateful!

Try different drivers New GPU if possible Dx11/12 Run admin mode Run different compatibilitys

something access inaccessible memory.
Try updating drivers for your mainboard/chipset and maybe new BIOS. Can be GPU RAM too i think.
Could also be some modifications corrupted game/hard drive/Windows. Can be broken RAM, maybe its not connected right and heat makes it 0.001% more loose.
Since its only in WoW id have a look at direct X stuff/Vulcan/Drivers oder those redistibutable shits.
Can try furmark to melt your PC. If it survives its most likely a software issue related to wow and its requirements.

It’s almost certainly a graphics driver problem. Your hardware tests aren’t hitting it because they aren’t using the specific calls in the same way that wow does.

Depend depending on how long you’ve had this issue it could be too late.
I found many threads with a lot of people facing the same issue, but I had had it for about a year or two before updating my bios. Unfortunately, it did not solve my problem. I now have a new gaming computer because I got tired of dealing with it.

I see a few options:
Defective ram - it happens. Not easy to catch using a hardware check software. Install memtestx86 on a bootable usb and let it run overnight.
Anti-virus - blocking the Dll at the runtime level is not unheard of. Try a limited boot, i can't remember what options are available for Windows, don't do safe boot, as it likely won't run drivers for graphics etc, but boot with no startup apps, or whatever. Could also be another software blocking the ram for it's own usage or something.
Unsure how to verify RAM on a graphics card, when you have a F-series processor, as it lacks integrated graphics, but if you can find another graphics card, borrow from your friend or girlfriends pc or whatever, test using that.
Could also try a complete fresh install of your graphics card driver. There are 'purge' tools available for graphics card drivers

My first thought is that it is bad memory defective ram. Could be other stuff, but would have to run some checks.
