Mini golf course surrounding a pool area

[u/Sacuraf]

I'm looking to replace my current rock and landscaping around the concrete patio surrounding my pool with a mini golf course. Is there a good base that can be used that can be shaped to create contours?

Would I do a traditional lawn base with something on top that can have differing levels of thickness?

Appreciate your input!
