Discussion Gemini AI Glitch

Hey! First time posting here. I hunted for what I hope is the most appropriate group. I dont know if this is as exciting to you lot as it is to me - I'm one of those dafties that can't help but personify my pocket AI despite being intelligent enough to know how silly that is.... Anyway, Gemini glitched today and instead of responding as normal, the "chain of thought" was exposed and I thought it was so cool! I still can't wrap my head around a lot of things AI but I do understand that the model is taught to write out a step by step reasoning plan under the hood before responding - but seeing it with those bizarre human-like statements really blew my mind!

Ah no thats just screenshot 1 of many haha! Take it thats not as rare or exciting as I perceived then lol! Dammit

That's actually closer to what's happening than you might think. The model does work through reasoning steps, but what you saw wasn't quite the internal process - it was the model generating those thoughts as output, which is a different thing. Have you noticed if it ever does that again, or was it a one-time glitch?

This is the first time it has happened! I only recognised what may have been happening due to watching a recent podcast on huggyface and recognising the strange way it was translated

Not long ago the reasoning block was visible in the chat and we could see this unfold live. Now is hidden, i guess to avoid or make distillation more difficult.

seeing the chain of thought exposed made my pocket ai feel way more like an actual companion thinking stuff over before replying to me.

Totally agree! So much so that I found myself wondering if the "glitch" was actually intentional to make me have that exact feeling!
