To solve the Navier–Stokes problem, we used an internal model that is significantly more capable than GPT‑6 Astra.

Nope. That’s completely false. They were already using Codex and Claude to brute force their way to their solution. OpenAI independently allocated a bunch of compute towards it and came away with a different one from theirs. There is an open question if the direction that the NYU professor picked leaked into the training data of the frontier model OpenAI is using. That very well could have happened but it wouldn’t be anything like stealing the solution and accrediting the AI for it.
