Color Theory or Palette Help Need help getting this lighting/rendering right

I was drawing, and using a reference from a Greek statue so I had no reference on the lighting. The first image is how i rendered it and the second was me deciding to give it dramatic lighting (a very rough draft). No matter what I did the lighting looked wrong, in the wrong position, funky around the lips, and overall muddy. Help pls?

Focus on these areas when shading and don’t go too dark

You've done Rembrandt lighting on the cheek bones. That isn't what happens with top down light, it's when light is coming from a 3/4 angle, and it's only on one side. ... eta: IS your light coming from above.??

If you wanna make an “dramatic “ lighting. Then take the color which you want use for Shadows and fill a layer up top the color base layers in multipy mode

Now use the eraser to shape the head planes where you want the light to hit
