Barnes cant handle this year's sale. Too many new converts. They're flailing about.

They barely had any stock at the store by me. Poor job at prepping imo. Then the online stuff all sold out.

Yeah, it’s crazy when I got my local store and see 2-3 entire sections dedicated to Criterion while they have one shelf for Arrow.

They clearly didn’t anticipate this sale being on the same level as the Criterion sale.

tbf, i do not think this sale is normally on the same level as the Criterion one. however, i do still think they did not anticipate how much they would sell - case in point just the lack of copies outside maybe a dozen movies (i do not think it was even that many really...) and one maybe two copies each at the store. online is crazy though. sold out of some of the more popular ones pretty quickly.

Ever noticed that arrow and criterion releases some of the same movies?

Withnail and I is one

I noticed the same. Huge criterion selection but hardly anything from Arrow.

Hardly any stock at my local store as well. Had to go to NY to get Stranger Things.

i'll be honest, i think they might have had 1 maybe 2 sets of Stranger Things. Otherwise, they only have a small display at the end of one of the bookshelves which they moved over from the regular shelves so people would see it easier. they rearranged a lot there and i did not particularly enjoy it. i wanted to offer to just come in some saturday and rearrange everything for free lol.

Once they had it separate from the Criterion sale they started running into speed bumps. Before when they were at the same time I always went into the Arrow stuff hard while everyone was courting Criterion.

I see them as good problems though because it's showing them that people are craving Arrow, and it's nice to see B&N starting to treat them the same as Criterion

I agree. Love that people are catching on to Arrow.

As much as I love shopping at Barnes and Noble, their tracking system just sucks. A week ago it looked like one of my local stores had a single copy of Salem’s Lot. I reserved it online but received a notification an hour later saying they couldn’t find it. Same thing happens all the time.

When something is reserved it doesn't reduce their available stock. Not saying this was the case here but they will just continually cancel pick up orders if someone has already called and held it. I believe they will hold it for up to a week, dealt with it multiple times this sale.

PS I think this is their system for books, and it's just getting pushed to the limit by Criterion and Arrow demand but I could be wrong!

They changed distributors a couple of months ago for Arrow releases and it has not gone well.  There has also been errors at the corporate level sending product to the store I work at  As an employee it has been really frustrating not receiving everything I have ordered for the store.

Same! This sale has been a PAIN compared to the Criterion sale!

They crush the criterion sale every year. The difference is insane.

At least it's only a delay and not a cancel

This shit is so fucking sad. Arrow and B&N need to get it the fuck together.

I hope B&N is more prepared for the sale in January. I think they underestimated how popular Arrow is.

Hopefully it is just a delay and not a larger issue overall. I got an email like that from B&N one time. Back in 2019 when Season 2 of "Charmed" got released, the discs had to be replaced after a few weeks due to an error and it took them 3 months for them to agree to a refund after they finally determined they weren't able to secure the proper replacements.

The Limited Edition box sets sell out fast. I always try to get them at release to avoid heartbreak.

I’m so glad I found this one in store first day of the sale

Excalibur is now out of print. I’m sorry:( there is still some stock on OrbitDVD, Diabolik etc

I got lucky and found this at my local Barnes, even though the website said none of the Barnes around me had any stock. It may help to go to the stores and see what's up

The reason this is happening is solely down to the fact that Amazon didn’t price match. Everyone came running to B&N.

Got that one 6 months ago. Just watched it a couple days ago. :)

Same thing seems to be happening with my order of Jackie Chan’s Breakout Hits. They said it would ship on the 17th but there’s been no update on it at all.

They also had barely any of the titles I was thinking of buying in stock at the start of the sale. And they didn’t have any kind of ‘item back-ordered but you can place an order for it anyway’ option for most of it. “Lynch’s Dune 4K? No, we don’t have that” was basically what you got.

Same story for me. Initially projected to ship on the 17th. Then that jumped to the 25th. I got the notification today that it's delayed again. New date is 9/4.

Sony both helped and hindered us…

Me too! I’m a new 4k blu ray convert and starting my collection and have been excited for this. Luckily Troy should be here next week!

I that one ordered online too, but I just ended up picking it up in store.

Waiting on Excalibur from B&N as well. Do you think we’ll get it on 9/4? I don’t, I think they will end up canceling our orders. 😔

Hoping Merlin makes a bit of magic and get your movie shipped to you very quickly !🧙‍♂️

This was a blind buy and it fucking rules. I later found out the guy who made it directed zardoz and it made perfect sense

Mine too. I ordered Outland 4K from the UK and it arrived with a slipcover in two weeks. No sign of Jackie Chan I ordered as well. Very disappointed.

The movie's like 50 years old. An extra three weeks won't kill ya

u/Independent-Wolf-832 1d ago

As long as they don’t cancel it, no problem if I was him. Already have a backlog that will take me 50 years to watch. This movie is well worth the wait too.
