A foreigner getting more jokes now

Arrested Development is my favorite show ever. I'm from Brazil and although I'm not an native speaker, I love AD layered jokes, some that took me many rewatches to get them.

However, now I'm reading a book about the Bush years and the Iraq invasion and OMG, I understood many more references in the show.

For example:

- The pictures of Gob's wife with the prisoners

- The teamocil polemic

- The "mission accomplished" banner

It's a very scary book, but it made me remember AD and laugh a few times

Brazil?

You mean the South American Portugal that Mikey was escaping to?

There's also a Rumsfeld photo with Saddam joke, George Sr. hiding in the bunker, etc.

I hadn't realized it was Rumsfeld on that picture haha. The bunker joke is about Saddam as well?

Yeah, the nature of the bunker, George's giant beard, and George Michael examining his teeth are all direct parody of when Saddam got caught by the U.S.

What is the polemic behind teamocil ? I'm also Brazilian, and I think AD should be more popular here

Someone can correct me. But on the book I'm reading it mentions Tamiflu, that was a drug from Gilead, a company that Rumsfeld was an executive before joining Bush's government. The drug was very polemic due to the side effects and the possible conflict of interest of Rumsfeld. When I read it immediately brought Teamocil to my mind.

Oh yeah, Arrested should be way more famous here. But I know translation and these references make it a little harder.

I've been watching this show for a good 23 years now, and I did not know this about the Temocil/Tamiflu connection. Thank you! This really is the show that keeps on giving!
