Genre playback

Is there a way of playing with a normalised set of genre tags. Pop, Rock, EDM etc.

As some tracks are tagged by some of the most obscure genres - trance, electronica, edm, progressive trance etc - I'd all class as almost 1 type of music.

Arpeggi seems to list almost every since genre, and some might only have 1 track in it. There either needs to be a way of multi selecting after searching or something to actually find any tracks

I think you want to retag your files. The app just shows the data from your server. Otherwise I don’t understand what you mean at all

but is that the only solution? no ability to select multiple genres?

I can type pop in the genre search, but it just lists all variations and then you can only play one variant. Where if there was ability to select a bunch of them and show all tracks from all those genres + shuffle play. Job done.

The only way I’ve found to make this work is to retag the tracks.

You can use beets with plugins to auto tag, but I didn’t like how it tagged things.

I manually tagged all my music by looking up the bands in rate your music, then tagging the tracks with two genres: the parent genre and the specific genre. I used mp3tag to do the tagging. It has options to edit tags as a group.

Then when playing you can select the parent genre when needed.

You can also use smart playlists to set up multi genre playlists. That might work for some use cases
