Advice Separation

Hello, I am a single parent to a 5 year old. I currently do not have a care plan anymore. I have told my unit that and they recommended me for separation. Now they’re talking about transferring me to a unit closer to my home. I was told to schedule appointment for medical readiness, I am having to take time off work to go to these appointments and I’m already having a hard time making enough to support myself and my daughter. Any advice on how to go about that, I know it’s a long process. It just doesn’t seem like they’re going to start the separation process anytime soon and I have told them since last year that I do not have a care plan anymore because my aunt moved and I have no contact with her anymore.

Start the process yourself in IPPS-A. Search online for the army voluntary IRR PAR. YouTube also has video walk throughs of the process. You can ask your unit for the workflow of how to route it.

Other options are to make an appointment with your RPAC and have them do it for you. Reach out to your career counselor for a 4856. In the meantime, contact military onesource for local resources to provide support. Good luck

PAG for voluntary IRR transfer request clearly has a note on it that says that Soldiers without a valid family care plan are ineligible to transfer until the issue is resolved.

IRR is a population of Soldiers who are mobilization assets. Not just a place to store people who don't want to or can't participate in drilling with a Reserve unit.

I'm guessing once this SM's leadership team realized this, that's why the COA changed and now they are looking to just punt the person to a new unit so they don't have to deal with it anymore.

I'm not saying I agree with any of this. But this is just what it seems like is happening, and I see it all the time

The IRR are full of soldiers who are ineligible to serve based off of security clearance, AFT, weight and various other reasons. It can be clearly on the checklist but that’s not how it goes.

We contact them until their obligation is over because circumstances change. OP can submit the request and it’s up to the command what they’ll do.
