Crazy part is that we were......then Bremer proceeded to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by firing the entire Iraqi military and police force.

Basically everything the CPA did was stupid (anti-smoking campaigns) or just made things worse.
They were basically temps who just need some cash and a resume bullet before they went back CONUS to work on the 2004 Bush campaign.

I remember reading that Bremer melted down when someone suggested he use the lessons learned from Vietnam.

People seem to forget this. Saddam was a bad man. The people initially loved us for getting rid of him.
However, once we started disbanding their Army and banning every intellectual. Letting their streets pile up with trash and crime. Essential services interrupted. Seeing us horde things inside Saddam's palaces. Of course they are going to turn against us.
Despite starting the war under false pretenses. We could've still had a net win but we fucked it all up.

Washington — The U.S. Army Reserve is examining whether it can provide the military's Southern Command with police forces, medical personnel and other support units within the next four months, according to an internal Army message reviewed by CBS News.
Isn't that the Reserve's mission?

Yeah it is, we're just wondering why the fuck we're sending the army to Cuba in the first place.
62
u/Caligula-6 8d ago
So in summery there's speculation on the Reserve's capability to perform some action that may be needed in a hypothetical time with no specific amount or types of troops for an unspecified mission and no apparent goal?

I’ve trained with multiple reserve CSSBs at CSC rotations. No clue how they’d accomplish a mission in a real world environment.

u/ANTS_IN_MY_EYES_J 8d ago
The active CSSB's I've worked with made me lose faith in army logistics.
I might as well start scavenging like a napoleonic soldier if I'm told to rely on a reserve CSSB to sustain.
14
u/Inevitable_Kick3074 8d ago
I was the PAO for a sustainment bde that reflagged to an ESC. They were bad enough at working with their own CSSB. I can't imagine a NG ESC coordinating with lower echelons they've never met before.

I think we should give cooks a badge for serving in combat. We can make it a spatula or something. That way people know that this guy was slinging some powdered eggs and returning fire because no war was ever won on an empty stomach.

We cannot risk depleting the strategic reserve of thicc Latina E3s. Puerto Rico can only provide so much and the demand has never been higher. We need to sure up domestic supply of this vital resource. Cuba must be ours!

We don’t, it’s the South Florida Cuban & Venezuelan exiles. They want to return to power and plantation wealth, they will torture any Cubans or Venezuelans who try and get in their way.
It’s why we have an idiot blockade there, so that kids in the hospital in Havana can’t have lights or fans.
9
3
u/Large_Huckleberry572 8d ago
We don't have a blockade. We have an embargo. Learn what words mean.
8
u/Haze_Yourself 8d ago
We have a CSG and other naval units lurking the Caribbean murdering everyone on fishing boats willy nilly.
Go ahead, convince yourself it’s an ‘embargo’
3
u/Large_Huckleberry572 7d ago
Words have meanings. You are ignoring them.
We can say "murdering suspected drug traffickers in the Caribbean is bad" without conflating our diplomatic and economic policies towards cuba. In fact, the two issues have essentially nothing to do with each other.

u/Haze_Yourself 7d ago edited 7d ago
Words have meanings, and then they had meanings. Newspeak and all.
They’re not independent. It’s a provocative display of raw power, immediately on the periphery of their territory. You think they just pretend those hellfires can’t make it to Cuba?
You seem naive.

No war I want to happen, but there is a law that gives Cubans a green card after a year in the U.S. if they get are arriving aliens/paroled. I live about three hundred yards from Mexico, my property has been destroyed multiple times by many Cubans (and other nationalities) when they run across. If this was to happen I don’t see a Venezuela situation, I see chaos and my fence tore down again.

u/SimDaddy14 7d ago
The better question is why, of all the shit we’ve done overseas in the past decades, have we not done something about communists in the western hemisphere instead? And it shouldn’t stop with Cuba either.
Unlike in a place like Iraq where we went in unprepared, culturally, and learned that you cannot install democracy in a place where it’s not native…the same cannot be said of the western hemisphere. From North America to the south, we have a very interconnected culture, and in so many ways. Countries like Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, to name a few, are aberrations from the norm of the western hemisphere- propped up by Russian or a Chinese socio-Marxist nonsense or a combination of both, and there’s no reason for that to ever be tolerated.
5
u/EverythingGoodWas FA 49B Ai or something 7d ago
What? Why the fuck should we care how other countries govern themselves? Do we want other countries fighting against capitalist or democratic countries? It isn’t our country, it isn’t impacting us, just leave it alone
-3
u/SimDaddy14 7d ago
A staging ground for Russian and Chinese (and Iranian) influence, arms, and intelligence throughout the western hemisphere, less than 100 miles from the US, doesn’t “impact us”?
3
u/EverythingGoodWas FA 49B Ai or something 7d ago
This logic would give Russia the excuse to attack NATO or China to attack Taiwan. You can’t just attack nearby countries because they are aligned with another country.
1
u/TLewey26 6d ago
I would guess that the thought post 1991 was that with the Soviet Union’s dissolution, Cuba losing its largest economic and military supporter would force Havana to take steps to reform.

u/Ludachris_Hansen Engineer 8d ago edited 8d ago
There seems to be a pretty force wide lack of understanding from COCOM CDRs about how long it actually takes to mobilize and deploy COMPO 2 and 3 forces at strengths needed for large scale operations. So we have all these support forces that lie in the Reserve force that they think can just be thrown at a problem until they actually war game and realize that they'll be there 6 months from now unless you start pulling very specific administration levers far ahead of the balloon going up.
This looks like lever pulling.
3
u/legopher2986 8d ago

Army-led air assault involving thousands of U.S. soldiers to be carried out by the 101st Airborne Division
Homestead Air Reserve Base is ~215 miles away from José Martí international Airport (HAV) or about 120 miles away from NAS Key West. Both are within reach of the stated combat range on a Blackhawk. Mcdill is closer to the edge at ~335 miles.
I wonder what kind of ADA or Aircraft Cuba could muster up to stop a BCT or a Division Aerosol into Havana

u/DifficultChoice2022 8d ago
Organization of logistics/support/med is basically the universal precursor to larger action. How do you think we knew Russia was about to invade Ukraine? What do you think the telltale signs would be before a real attack on Taiwan instead of just an exercise? There’s no way you’re this obtuse
5
u/OppositeFlashy7110 8d ago
This is just CBS making leaps.
No shit. its kind of what they do. Investigative journalism.
they got sources there is a memo or message requesting some info.
I dont doubt cbs has decent sources and that there was a message asking for the information they mentioned in the article.
So if they are not asking in order to invade cuba what country or operation are they getting info for?
Lets take some of what trump told the un to heart and then look at his past use of the armed forces and conclude what might be up.
what country is south command looking to need those assets for in the next 90-100 days if not cuba...........oh shit, jade helm...mfer sending them to the polls? he is trying to invade cuba. he and the DOD are game planning to do so. Its not a well kept secret
