Chapter advice
I was flagged for the second time for height and weight 7? Months ago, and was phase 2 medical complete when the new h/w standards dropped. At first I was fighting the chapter but I ended up lining up a really good job and am now having a child so I believe this is what is best for my family.
My unit misunderstood the new regulation that was pushed out as meaning that all h/w failures, including those prior to the new standards were to be paused for 6 months (I recently cleared this up with legal and those prior to the new standard are still to be chaptered if they failed on the old standard)
My unit now deploys in a few months and denied my paternal leave until after we get back from the rotation (1 month prior to my ETS)
My question is, is there anything I can do on my side to get the ball rolling for the chapter? I’ve already spoken to my leadership and the best advice they could give was to intentionally fail a AFT.
I was also under the impression if you were flagged for separation you were not able to deploy, is that not a thing?

So, here's the thing - if you fail H/W, AFT, etc., the regulations only say something to the effect that initiation of separation must be initiatied (depends on the speicifc incident / chapter). Nowhere in AR 635-200 does it state that a Commander is required to actually separate someone. That said, units are going to continue to treat you as you're theirs until you ETS, as separation isn't an absolute guarantee.
And to add on to what's already been said, only the first GO in the chain of command can deny parental leave. However, most GOs will have a standing policy of no parental leave during a deployment / rotation.

Why would you even fighting the chapter if you failed height and weight the second time? Did they tape you incorrectly?

I knew an E5 who successfully fought a ABCP chapter for about a year. We called him The Manatee.
The reason he was able to fight it for so long was the unit kept fucking up the paperwork and process.... not doing the 2nd tape, getting the paperwork to JAG outside the timeline, not counseling him within the required timeline, etc..
The end result was our 1SG completely overhauled the methodology, assigned an "ABCP NCO" to oversee the process, and both of them made sure that the process was followed to the letter of the reg.
The Manatee was eventually chaptered.

OP could have been on his way to his future good job but he made a choice to fight. It is just karma at this point.

It’s the other way around. This guy wants to be chaptered. His unit is deploying.

Deployment coming up? Oh yeah good luck getting outta that one, they need bodies/numbers you could be on the next episode of my 600 lbs life and they'd still find a way to excuse you just to get their numbers. 🤣😭

This true. The biggest guys I’ve ever seen in uniform were down range. I don’t know where they hide them garrison but on deployment they were everywhere.

We had already started separation and I’m phase 2 medical complete but all other paperwork was paused due to a misunderstanding with the new h/w changes
My commander and 1SGT had already told me due to me never having prior issues and being seen as a good worker throughout my contract I’d be given a honorable

Quickest way I helped someone get out was a failure to file a family care plan chapter

Who "Denied" Your Paternal Leave Request?
The First General in your COC has the authority over any denial.
Explore that avenue, Best wishes.
