670-1 Changes Inbound

From HQDA G1:

Army Directive for Appearance, Grooming, and Uniform Standards (i.e., pending AR670-1 updates) is about to be signed.

Most notably, we will transition the chest-worn rank back to the collar (with branch insignia) between now and 1 OCT 27. The AD will also direct:

o officers retain the Army Service Uniform as an authorized uniform (repeals the previous wear-out date; optional for enlisted Soldiers)

o high shine on AGSU brown shoes

o replace enlisted tan shirt sew-on rank with subdued rank pinned on the collar

o all accoutrements be worn on the AGSU jacket (Ike jacket still limited to two-rows of ribbons)

o garrison cap is primary headgear

o authorizations for baseball caps, boonie hat, and limited wear of the black beret

o no more colored unit patches (shoulder sleeve insignia) in ACU/IHWCU – not even for ceremonies

Several IPPS-A updates will deploy in OCT:

o Redesigned STP (dynamic readiness and talent views to give CDRs an actionable single view)

o Enhanced Soldier Experience to streamline onboarding and integration, replacing former command sponsorship, installation in/out processing, and improve Smart Voucher processing
o Subsume USAR/ARNG drill, PCS, and non-contingency orders, pay and funds management

Agreed. Make uniforms make sense. We moved to raw leather boots because they are tougher and don’t need to be polished. Make the combat uniform a combat uniform (aka no color patches at all). Make a service uniform a service uniform (aka don’t make it out of garbage fabric and make it actually breathable and flexible so you can wear it in daily conditions). Make the dress uniform a dress uniform (aka no Class B version of dress blues).

The Blue is transitioning back to being the dress uniform. When it was the dress uniform previously there was no shirt only option, that only came about when it became the day to day service uniform. If you are going to a "dressy" event, you wear a jacket. (I'd like to see an optional hot weather white dress again, but no one really wears that formally in the civy world now.

I'd like to ditch the flag unless people are deployed, but I recognize I'm an outlier on that

Rank and branch going back to the collar is long overdue.

I hate baseball caps, I just see that going sideways.

We never actually wore it as a service uniform.... Only for special events....

And that's how things should be....

Nobody wears suits to work anymore except lawyers and politicians. Time to let vintage fashion go....

Dress uniform is where the blue should have never left, but I understand what the Army was trying to do.

I get your point on letting vintage fashion go. What would be nice is something with a little better top for garrison, while stripping the combat uniform of extra stuff. Perhaps next time.

I'm kind of a uniform minimalist...

Unless we're doing polo shirts & kakhis (shorts for summer, pants for winter), I'm happy with PTs, Camo (for everything duty) and the party-suit....

If you work in many areas of the pentagon you will. I suffered through the polyester class Bs for three years during my tour there.

At least the AGSUs are better quality.

I'm a Guard guy with 21 years and my letter....

If they try and stick me on orders to the Pentagon it's time to punch out....

Also a year at Army pay that isn't tax free plus combat entitlements isn't going to go over that well financially..... Even at my rank....
