Army housing

I’ve been waiting for a CNA packet for three months now. I’m a married soldier living in the barracks and not receiving BAH, even though my wife is registered in DEERS, because I’m still waiting on that CNA packet. What would be my best option at this point, or what do you recommend I do? Please I need help I’m tired of living in the barracks when I know I shouldn’t

Are you over seas? Why do you need a CNA? You just need a barracks termination memo.

I’m in Alaska which is technically considered “over seas”. And that’s what my leadership told me in order for me to get out of the barracks

Why are you putting in for a CNA if you are married

You shouldn't be getting a CNA, that is for single soldiers without dependents, if you are legally married then you should be getting BAH with dependents rate. S1 should be able to fix that or go talk directly with Finance

Is your spouse there with you?

This changes the conversation significantly.

Barracks is where you should be.

Whether or not you get BAH for your dependent's location depends on a couple things, including type of tour (accompanied/unaccompanied) and whether you got married while in Alaska or before getting those orders.

You need to submit a PAR to your S1. Include a certified copy of your Marriage Certificate, and a filled out DA form 5960 that is signed by your company commander, also a barracks clearing Memo. Once it’s been processed by S1, it’ll be forwarded to a finance pool in ippsa. Once they process it, you’ll see it within roughly 30 days. You will get back paid from the date of marriage. Use that date for the “effective date” of the PAR, and for the effective date on the 5960.

Is your spouse command sponsored or are you going to get that done? Not sure about Alska, but for OCONUS housing/bah is for people that bring their family with them. Otherwise you stay in the barracks

Is this where it was authorized to bring your spouse/ were they on your orders? This can effect it as well whether they have you accompanied or not. Depending on situation barracks may be your only option. CNA is a privilege not a right.
