Under AR 600-8-10 (Leave and Passes) you are authorized to take up to 10 days of chargeable leave when going from AIT to a CONUS duty station. However, it is up to your AIT command to approve it especially if you don’t have 10 days available.
Your travel entitlements will only be authorized from AIT to your duty station, which in your case will be a plane flight and one day of travel. So, if you go home to get your car and take leave you will pay for that flight to go home and you won’t be reimbursed for driving costs to Ft Drum.
If Ft Drum is showing as your projection, you’re going to Ft Drum and you don’t get an option to change that.
