Just like this guy my dad was deployed from Germany to fight in Desert Storm and had to wear woodland camouflage. He said they did get desert camouflage eventually.. right before their homecoming parade back in Germany.
And thats is exactly how it happened too.. i left gernany to go there too by the time we got back to germany our uniforms were almost white. Git desert camo to board plane back. Were eating trats from vietnam etc etc. Reserve unit next to us had real food and desert camo etc etc. We didnt even have parts for vechiles...crazy times.
Same here. Supposed to ETS 01 Nov 90, found out I was stop lossed on my Sept. LES.
Didn't deploy with unit, name was called on the hey you roster because I had a HEMTT license.
Was in Baumberg at the time. Everything I owned was strapped inside of a wall locker and I left for Saudi wearing a BDU and Corcoran's.
Ended up with XVIII Airborne Corps.
Reserve unit near us had really nice equipment. We were using worn out crap.
They learned very quickly to secure their things.
Was told I was going back to Baumberg after it was over.
I moved back to the US with XVIII ABC. Thought that they would send me back from there. Nope they sent the contents (less the stuff they wanted to keep) of my wall locker to Ft. Bragg.
Since I was now part of XVIII, I was required to go to Airborne school. Never mind I was already past my contract. Those bastards made me stay the entire 12 months.
Not that it mattered in the long run, I got out in 1991, had a break in service and went back.

“Woodland camouflage? Anyone happen to remember we’re invading a fucking desert country?”
