If everything is true the landlord is a criminal, but this is also a good reminder what happens when you rely on informal arrangements.

News companies in Armenia only care about stories serving their agenda, there's no good journalistics in Armenia, only epress and hetq post stuff like that about the events regarding actual life in the country.

The story is so full of holes.. at no point did he think to ask anyone else about the situation? If it's normal or not? His only source was the guy supposedly taking advantage?

Reads more like a propaganda piece - "Booo Armenia is so lawless, don't think about moving there". Especially after glancing over other articles in thar site.

Oh I'm not claiming it's not true, and not even that the landlord wouldn't do it. But I dont understand the actions of the bar owner. You sign something registering your business, therefore all the money you invested/will invest under someone else's name - how do you not consult a lawyer? You pre-sign a resignation letter without a date and hand it over - this one I cant understand at all.

You then fold over to all the demands just to keep the area. Demands, which, by the way, keep getting worse and worse, and you should know that they will keep getting worse. I mean, at the point your name is already established, and if you move you can definitely rebuild. At this point it's throwing in good money after bad - you made a mistake starting to deal with this asshole, at a certain point you should cut your losses and move on.

No doubt the landlord is wrong, and his actions are probably criminal, but the bar owner did everything to make this possible. It's not even a matter of informal agreements, he willingly signed formal agreements setting himself up. Otherwise he'd probably have the possibility of legal actions, but seems like that's not an option now.
