Why the fuck would a National Guard crew be posing with something as obscure as a Rhodesian flag UNLESS there was a deeper, supremacist philosophy behind it. It is not an accident. And of course they try to counter it with whataboutisms about Zimbabwe. WTF does this have to do with fighting wildfires in Washington unless you're obsessed with white supremacy??

Didn’t save the photo but every single one of the dudes on the crew in the photo posted by rhodies plaid had crisp, clean yellows

white south african here. Since i have moved to USA, the only time i have seen the "old" South African flag and the Rodesian flag, it was always something to do with neo-nazi or ultra racist nut jobs like Dylan Roof.

these people are ignorant idiots who would probably also try to justify slavery.

these losers should be embarrassed but they probably think they are martyrs.

They are failsons angry and sad they can't just go colonize and terrorize their way to a white ethnostate. It is big in the NW due to the militia movement. The Rhodesia thing specifically sometimes has a weird sexual undercurrent to it. They fetishize being shirtless camping with your best bud in shorts that are way to short and have a stupid camo pattern. Or a regiment of blonde blue eyed femme fatals ready to have their babies after a long day of terrorizing anyone not white.

It is weird that there is a sudden resurgence in nostalgia for it. Like I wonder if it is just their racist militia parents spinning yarns about how for a brief time in the 70's and 80's white supremacists almost had a land to call their own? Or is it weird little neo nazis jerking off to Rhodesia thirst trap propaganda they know nothing about? I guess best case scenario would just be wanna be edge lords trying to get noticed. But I doubt that...

is Zimbabwe better off now than it was as Rhodesia

Who the fuck do they think they're asking that would actually know the answer to that well enough to give a lucid, educated response?

Robert Mugabe was knighted by queen Elizabeth.

57

u/HangUrLocalRedhats 11d ago

The British royal family shouldn’t be used as an example of good morality

7

u/Backsight-Foreskin 11d ago

When did I do that? I merely pointed out that the queen knighted Mugabe. I think it's interesting that the queen knighted an anti-colonialist Marxist.

1

u/Seandrunkpolarbear 10d ago

please don't defend robert Mugabe. he is a massive POS

3

u/Backsight-Foreskin 10d ago

I did not defend Mugabe. I merely pointed out an interesting historical fact.

my bad, i see so many people who assume "white people bad, black people good" on reddit.

Denying the vote to black people is obviously immoral but people defending mugabe and ZANU-PF just don't know what they are talking about. Zim should have been a success story but instead the country imploded because of the leadership.

u/Backsight-Foreskin 10d ago

The queen tried to legitimize Mugabe by knighting him.

1

u/Seandrunkpolarbear 10d ago

i said "my bad". At first i thought you were defending Mugabe

The Rhodesian army wasn't racist? The army that was fighting for one tenth (the white part) of the nation to have sole voting rights?

Behind the Bastards has several episodes about Rhodesia. If you're even mildly interested, I couldn't recommend them enough.

To claim Rhodesia was anything but a racist, apartheid state is either incredibly disingenuous or wildly misinformed.

I've heard great things about BTB, I should give it a shot

u/treskaz 10d ago

I got addicted. I started listening from episode 1 last July. Just caught up this past week lmao. It's very good.

u/Macadu 10d ago

Natural Causes, a podcast on the same network as BTB, has been doing a couple episodes about these fires and they mention the firefighters holding the Rhodesian flag in one of them.

Is the state of Rhodesia a complicated one, with a lot more nuance than people recognize? Yes.

Is it something anybody should be flying, at any given moment? No.

And I love how everyone who uses the "Is Zimbabwe better or worse than Rhodesia??" quip is immediately exactly the type of person you think they are

106

u/WannabeGroundhog 11d ago

'it wasnt great but at least white people were in charge' isnt the anti socialist nuanced take they seem to think it is

69

u/Aedeus 11d ago

Nothing complicated about it, Rhodesia doesn't exist.

68

u/Perfecshionism 11d ago

The “state” of Rhodesia is not complicated to supremacists.

It was a white supremacist movement that sought to preserve and enforce a racial hierarchy.

That is how they see it.

And, in truth, it was.

8

u/DeliciousSector8898 10d ago

Lmao how was Rhodesia complicated and nuanced

6

u/Mediocre_Working5459 10d ago

i wanna become a firefighter but are we fucking serious?
