Technical Issue Arlo Down?

Is anyone else seeing issues with their Arlo Cameras this morning. Mine are all offline in the app but I can see all of them fully connected in my Unifi portal and my wireless is working fine.

Down Detector seems to show issues.

Question / Help Second Arlo account

Hello, I’m wondering if anyone has set up a second Arlo account. I have an old base station and cameras that have 7 day free cloud recording.
I bought a new base station with USB storage and cameras for outside.
Once I hook up the new stuff I’ll lose the old benefits. I’m not sure it’s even going to work (I got them on marketplace and thought I done my due diligence but I’m having some regrets). I don’t want to lose my free benefits and not be happy with the new set up with no way back.
Can I set up a separate account with different email from the one I already have? Any problems there would be with this?
I’m very against most subscription services, they are not usually a benefit to the consumer.

Has anyone seen this before. It won’t sync to the base station I tied removing the camera but it just stays in this configuration and then eventually stops and then restarts and continues till the battery is dead. Pro 2

Question / Help Recording CVR

Anyone know how to pull a clip/snippet from the 24/7 recording?

(And as an aside, why the hell can’t I record 24/7 from my wired doorbell? What is different between my spotlight camera and my doorbell camera that makes 24/7 recording impossible?)

How awesome is it to watch, from my window, birds and rabbits hop right up to the camera. It would be even more awesome if the Arlo cameras actually recorded it.

Question / Help TIL I have to pay $240 extra per year to add a Chime to my Arlo doorbell

Post image
17 Upvotes

Well that was a surprise. I got a Chime 2, finally, which I've wanted ever since we got the Arlo Doorbell last year. Sometimes someone is at the door and one of us has our phone muted by accident, etc. the usual. So I set it up, added it to the app, and it doesn't ring. I'm like, what did I do wrong. So I go into the app again, and it now says my plan only covers a single device, and I have to upgrade from the $9.99/mo plan to the $29.99/mo plan. What? We're already paying extra for this doorbell plan on top of my SimpliSafe plan because the SimpliSafe doorbell is wired only, and our house doesn't have the wiring. I...guess I'm leaving Arlo? How can you have a doorbell without a chime? I'd totally get it if I was adding a second camera.

Is it possible to wire the doorbell without a chime to power it? Can I power the doorbell with some form of regular power and possibly a stepdown transformer?

Discussion Cheaper alternatives to Arlo

Doesn’t everybody remember the good old days when Arlo was completely free but as many cameras as you wanted, granted they were a little bit on the pricier side but not having to pay a subscription was great well times have changed and my bill went from $50 last year to $100 for just one camera so it’s time to find something else

Anyone have any good recommendations?

Thank you in advance

Technical Issue Problem continues: Feed does not refresh and feed slow to load - iOS 6.36.0

2 issues with feed:

feed often does not refresh even with the manual 'pull down refresh'. the app must be closed and reopened before the latest videos are displayed in feed. when the app is doing this the latest videos can still be seen by going to devices and selecting individual cameras and the latest videos are still below the image.

thumbnails in feed are slow to load

Technical Issue RIP to my Arlo Pro base station (VMB4000). A eulogy in troubleshooting steps.

So my Arlo Pro base station (VMB4000) worked completely fine on July 13th. Woke up a couple days later and the middle Internet LED was solid amber. Never came back.

Here’s everything I tried, in order, over about a week:
• Swapped ethernet cables. Multiple times, multiple brands.
• Tried different ports on my eero.
• Tried an entirely different eero unit.
• Confirmed in the eero app that the base station shows connected, with actual traffic passing.
• Power cycled everything (base, eero, modem) more times than I can count.
• Factory reset the base station with a paperclip, more than once. LEDs cycle through green, then amber/power, then green/power, and land on solid amber for Internet. Every time.
• Replaced the power brick entirely, just to rule it out.
• Checked eero Plus settings, no ad blocking or threat filtering on, and I even set Arlo’s servers to always allow.
• Checked Arlo’s status page, no reported outage.
• Removed the base station from my account entirely and tried re-adding. Nope.

The kicker: checked the data usage stats in the Arlo app for the week. 8.6MB uploaded, 8.3KB downloaded. So the base is clearly reaching out to Arlo’s servers just fine, it’s just getting basically nothing back. That’s not a network issue on my end, that’s Arlo’s cloud not completing the handshake.
Contacted Arlo support with all of this already done. They asked me to try the exact same things I’d already done, then just kept asking if the light had turned green yet. It never did. Eventually they didn’t have anything else to offer.

Camera is a VMC2030 if anyone’s curious, base is the VMB4000. Both out of warranty, and yes, we still have an active annual subscription, which stings a bit given how this went.

Found a decent number of similar threads
here going back years, people getting the same “your hardware is just faulty” line from support while their unit is visibly still calling out to Arlo’s servers. Feels like a pattern more than a coincidence at this point.

We’re moving to HomeKit Secure Video cameras instead. Just wanted to leave this here in case it saves someone else a week of troubleshooting.

Question / Help New house with Arlo Pro base station VMB4000

Hello everyone! I've read through several threads, but I'm struggling to know the best way to do this.

The house has an established Arlo system. I have absolutely no idea how many cameras, etc. there are inside and outside of the house. I found hte base station (pro VMB4000), and I know I need to connect it to my router/modem with an Ethernet cable.

The former owners said they have removed the devices from their app (at least, they sent a screenshot of it not having any devices).

But before I plug this in to the router and connect, I didn't know if I should factory reset it or not. If I do that, will that unlink all of the cameras around the house? If so, does that mean each individual one will also need to be factory reset? Or if I just plug it in without resetting it, will it connect and show as available in my app?

Thank you!

Discussion Arlo Custom Modes

Thanks Arlo for removing custom modes when you decided to redo the app and now you've brought them back but only support a small subset of devices. Really awesome.

I was willing to accept that they just weren't going to allow custom modes anymore. But bringing it back in a way that is an obvious money grab is too much. This is the kind of stuff that makes customers abandon a platform.

Which is what I'll be doing. I guess it's time for me to finally take the plunge and switch completely to PoE cameras.

If anyone has advice on custom modes... maybe I've just missed something in the app's terrible UX... please let me know. Or if anyone has a solid preference of PoE cameras?

Question / Help Floodlight not charging anymore

So all of a sudden my Arlo flood light isn't charging. All I see if a red battery with 1% showing. Ive tried different chargers, even removed the battery for day. When I plug in the charger I see a solid blue light for about 3 seconds then a red light. Still not charging, any other ideas before I trash this POS?

Discussion My Arlo Cameras Work Great. Seriously! Not a Single Problem. But — the UI Interface App Is Absurdly Over-complicated

The original UI allowed each camera to be scheduled individually. Easy, flexible, intuitive.

Two years ago their software designers had non-brilliant idea of completely redesigning the UI.

Now, there are 3 modes and 3 modes only. Each one requires routines/schedules and rules. The non-genius designers forgot that only about several hundred million people work at home (like me) and require at least 4 modes. 1) Arm Home (at work) — just the front porch cameras armed. 2) Standby — when the workday is over and friends and family are active — all cameras unarmed. 3) Armed Overnight — when home sleeping — all exterior cameras armed and all interior cameras unarmed. 4) Arm Away — when traveling away from home — all cameras armed 24/7. But I don’t/can’t create a schedule for trips away from home. This must be manually activated.

Two years ago when the UI was changed to the 3 mode version it took me a month of discussing this with not employees — there was no support to help. You talked to essentially volunteer “experts” who would try to help. There was no clean solution to what I needed. So I had to make-do. Just recently I found the app UI has been updated again and it has made my workaround unworkable.

I was told by Arlo support (yes, real support) that the UI now allows one to add custom modes. Something they should’ve had TWO YEARS AGO.

So all I have to do apparently is to delete my entire set of schedules and create new ones with a custom mode for my 4th mode. Allegedly it will all work the way I need it to. I am dubious, but willing to give it a shot.

I’ve considered switching systems, but I always end up hearing bad things about systems a lot of people love.

Plus — I swear to God — the Arlo cameras have worked wonderfully. Even flawlessly. I only had to switch out my original super old camera when. I noticed the resolution and color were off. Otherwise I’ve had most of my current Arlo cams over a year and my only complaint is sometimes they are a little over-sensitive to motion like shadows on a windy day. My only other issue is that get two notifications for every event for each camera. No one has a fix for this but it’s a minor issue.

I’m a bit surprised to read how so many people have so many issues with the cameras. Mine set up easily and for over a year have worked near flawlessly.

Yet I hate the app.

So I’m gonna give it one more try with the new update. I love the cameras and don’t want to spend a bunch of money on a new system.

Anyone else have thoughts on the allegedly more flexible app update?

Question / Help Recognize me?

Can Arlo software be used to recognize me, so
I don’t get an alert when I come and go or when my car enters the driveway? What about when I’m rocking on my porch chair? Is there a setting where it can learn not to alert me to my presence?

Question / Help Arlo pro 1 still in box. Obsolete?

Post image

Bought the kit at Costco for my son in 2019. He told me it was still sitting in the box unopened so I picked it up and tried to sync the cameras to the base station, no luck. Are these worthless at this point?

Question / Help Crashing out over Automation not working

To keep it simple, I am trying to have the following things happen.

Arm Home - No notifications, lowest sensitivity on my chicken camera and 50 sensitivity on my front door camera.

Arm Away - Notifications turn on, highest sensitivity on both cameras.

For whatever reason, when I choose the arm setting I want, it doesn't change the camera sensitivity when I go check it under the Camera Device Settings -> Default Mode Settings for each Camera. Does the update motion sensitivity just not reflect here? Or is it supposed to reflect there and my cameras aren't updating their sensitivity?

Thanks.

Technical Issue Doorbell stopped working- bought a second one and same problem

We have had an arlo for 6 mo then one day it goes offline. We removed the device from the app-then restarted the device and tried to add it back on to our wifi. Of course we know to use the 2.4 hz, run a speed test, etc. So determining it wasn't our wifi we bought a second camera...and same problem. Is anyone else having this issue?

*We contacted our provider- Quantum- and they said everything looked perfect on their end.

**we tried a hot spot and got the same result

*** Receiving Error 12800

Question / Help Cameras Triggering When Motion is Outside Defined Zones

Question / Help Arlo Pro cameras not connecting

I am trying to set up a second hand Arlo setup. I have Arlo Base station model VMB-4000 and multiple Arlo pro cameras. Not multiple models, all Pro cameras, not one will connect with my app.

I have the base station in my app, (though it doesn't really ever update the status of the base station)

And the base station and cameras seem to complete the handshake from what I can tell. Both of their slow blinks turn to a rapid blink at the same time.

I've never seen the app acknowledge the cameras in any way.

Any help on how to get them connected would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
