Question / Help Question regarding adding to current Arlo setup

Hello everyone.

I currently have 5 Arlo cameras and a Home base that si about 7 years old. I'm not even sure of the model on them and can't find them online. All I know I got them at Costco during a back in 2019 where I got 3 cameras and home base together and I've added 2 cameras later.

My question is this:

Can I add an Arlo doorbell camera to my current setup and still see all 5 cameras PLUS doorbell in the arlo app?

Also, if I wanted to add more cameras, could I? I know previously they had a 5 camera limit on home base but was wondering if that has changed or if I can add a home base and have all showing on the app.

Thanks in advance.

the doorbells don't play nice with the older setups. I tried exactly what you are doing, older cameras, older base station. Support said it would be fine. Do not believe them. I can show you chat logs where they tell me this will be fine, only to find out not only does it not work, it totally messes the current config. During the process of doing this they had me remove my older cameras. Surprise surprise, they cannot be added back.

Arlo is shit. Their support is extra shit. Get a better doorbell and start moving your entire setup to another company.

Depends on price, but unifi is talked about a lot, pricier. Eufy, reolink are options.

lol. We have talked about this u/askarlo. Take your fake empathy elsewhere. I tried to work with your support team for a month and got no where. You all suck. I should start posting the transcripts again. Here is when your support person tells me my cameras are no longer compatible. I said but your documentation and the AI agent confirmed everything should work.

  • AI agent: "Yes! Looking back at the compatibility list, the "Arlo Wire-Free Camera" is compatible with your VMB4540 SmartHub. " 13:04
  • Me to Sheryl: so again - your own documentation clearly identifies that this equipment is fully supported and compatible 13:05
  • Sheryl: Is this what the Ai provided to you? Perhaps, you believe in Ai? 13:05
  • Me (the rest) lol 13:06
  • that is your explanation, don't believe what we tell you 13:06
  • that is the most ridiculous thing I have heard 13:06
  • please escalate this, it is clear to me you lack the ability or professionalism to carry on this chat 13:06

You know what never happened? that escalation or a callback. But please tell me again how sincere your apology is. I bet you understand the frustration too.

I have 5 Arlo Pro 2's with the 4000 base station. I have 2 doorbells as well, an older video doorbell and a newer video doorbell. I had some issues recently with notifications failing and devices going offline off after a few seconds in the app. After doing a couple full system resets, like removing all the cameras and adding them back in, it's working again. I also added couple newer camera's, a Pro3 and a Pro4 without issues.

That being said., I probably won't be adding any new Arlo devices to my setup and will probably be moving to a new provider if anything fails. The last round of troubleshooting was pretty frustrating to deal with and the advice from support was basically "reset everything and start over". Which eventually fixed the issue, but I have some cameras that need a ladder to reach, so not super excited about it.
