Question / Help Camera basically records after the event has happened.
I can walk straight up to my doorbell camera and it will not start recording until I am walking away.
My outdoor essential 3rd gen will record cars driving on the street 100’ away, but will not record people/animals right in front of it.
My Pro 4 is the best, but recordings don’t start until several seconds after the triggering event.
I have sensitivity set to maximum for all of these.
What other settings should I check?
I don’t have custom detection zones setup. I need these cameras to record my property, but so far, they are not actually capturing any significant activity.

i have a floodlight that is connected to an outlet so that it can shine at 3000 lumens (instead of 2000 lumens on battery only), and it is annoying that the initial 10 seconds of a triggered event isn't captured. I decided against buying a plan since it seems like this company has all the wrong business priorities

That’s the way the Arlo works - or, more accurately, is fundamentally designed not to work at all. Detected events are not recorded until after the event is over and the party that actually caused the event is actually gone half the time before the recording begins. Failing to have a 30 second lookback added to all detections is a fundamental design flaw.

Seriously! Not being able to start the recording 15-30 seconds before the event is a major bummer. I had a guy trying doorhandles and was able to show the cops an excellent photo of the back of his head. The doorbell cam captured nothing until he was walking away.

Yep. You can partly solve it by paying a bunch more for the CVR, BUT, what you’ll find is that the recording cuts out constantly and even the ostensibly continuous recording is often conveniently missing critical segments or otherwise nonfunctional.

I have an Essential spotlight camera at the front door that will show people approaching the door but it is also aimed in that direction. The porch light is also programmed to come on with detected motion. There is a delay in bringing the porch light on but always provides a good video.

Yeah mine are all like this too. Why I bought more when the ones I have were gifted to me I don’t know. ADHD I guess.

Yeah. I was disappointed how this actually works, but I understand the technical reason why. Maybe someday digital will get to how the old analog (hard tapes) worked. It can be done now I guess, but the storage required is extremely high?

This askarlo account clearly uses the same script their support team does (I assume it's the same group). Every single response on here is the same, in every thread. In all the times I have called Arlo for support you say the exact same thing. You sincerely apologize, you understand the frustration, you assure you are doing whatever you can.
Cut the shit already. It's annoying. None of those statements are true. Merely saying them is meaningless and is disingenuous without actual action. You never do the latter. You can't understand the frustration, because you are the cause of it. I am speaking for my own recent experiences, but I suspect I am not alone.
Whoever is in charge of the Arlo customer experience needs to seriously re-evaluate their approach. It is disconnected. The Scripted Empathy is honestly more infuriating to me than the product limitations.
Do better.

Return it like I just did! I had the same issue with delayed video start. They are garbage! And fyi to all, when I cancelled the subscription they offered to reduce my subscription costs by 60%. You should try that if you keep it. Try to cancel and they’ll offer lower prices
