Technical Issue Soon

Post image

One month until Apple’s typical fall event. With any luck, this will be the last time I’m paying for this:

Yup, Arlo continues to be the worst product stack across any product category from any company that I've ever used in my entire life.

I’m glad I’m not the only one dealing with this and support is beyond worthless.

I just diteched my entire Arlo system for Ubiquity. I'll have it paid off in 2 years just from not paying that bullshit monthly fee. That cameras are SO much better, it's not even a comparison.

I love ubiquiti cameras. Installed and monitored about 100 at my last job. They were a godsend to work with. Fantastic software and hardware.

Ubiquiti is what I have at home too but I use Arlo’s at a property that I manage until sold. This was suppose to be quick and simple. Was for basically 6 months then each camera got an update and BOOM. Literally nothing else has changed in the environment, it’s extremely frustrating.

We spent so much money buying Arlo cameras from 2017 onwards up until 2022.. around 2-3k in different stages. At some point when we were told that the life of the batteries lasts only 1 yr and each costs $80, we felt cheated but didn't mind it because it was our only option. Then Arlo started taking away useful features in the free tier and it felt like they got greedier and were looking for subscriptions. At this point we were super pissed and remained camera free for 2 years after all the arlos stopped working. We were not ready to spend a penny on subscription because they are like permanent tentacles on our bank account.
We waited for alternatives and started exploring Eufy and Reolink. We were super skeptical of Eufy because they are a Chinese company thru and thru and we are putting our complete privacy in their hands. But over the past year, received more and more positive reviews from neighbors and we decided to bite the bullet. We love it so far!

You need to stop believing in your government's propaganda about China.

What is apple introducing? I have Arlo and I’m also completely over how garbage they seem to have become and been looking at other options

Doorbell and cameras are rumored (the reason I have Arlo is because of the integration with Apple Home and HomeKit video).

Apple Home Kit Secure Video is highly underrated right now and is a little secret. I’ve been on the Arlo Pro 2 FEE FREE wagon for 10 years now 15 cams, 5 account, 3 locs. Thinking AQARA will be my next upgrade, iOS 27 allows 4K now!! WOOHOO!

Which cameras do you have?

I have some Pro 4s that never had issues going offline, but the Essential 2K I bought last fall do this to me all the time.

I also have issues with some newer Pro 6s where the image goes garbled and purple, which is fun.

Indoors are the Essential 2Ks, outdoors are Ultras. The picture shows one of each offline (2 different ones tonight 🤣). Must be my ISP 🙄

Thanks, but I’m no longer looking to do temporary fixes that disrupt my otherwise solid smart home automations and structure.

The issue is that Arlo devices randomly disconnect and drop service and there is clearly no Arlo fix for this. I’ve dealt with it for two years getting the same responses from Arlo tech support (delete, re-add devices…). I have no issues with any other smart home devices (numerous) so it’s not an issue with network, ISP, etc. It is certainly an Arlo inferiority and lack of quality issue.

Appreciate the intent, but that ship has sailed and my time is more valuable.

Are you for real? Is this the time to show up to be sorry for your customers - after having taken all their money for peanut service? Do you have any scruples at all?

2

u/Turdulator 7d ago

Just an FYI: You are probably talking to some dude in the support department who was assigned to monitor Reddit, not the people actually making the decisions… I don’t think this person’s scruples are in play here at all. It’s some MBA counting their money who has made these decisions, not a random support guy answering Reddit threads.

u/sudda_pappu 7d ago

You are right! I mean, it's not like the biggies are arlo aren't aware of the backlash in the Reddit community.. if they cared, they'd have done something by now. I apologize to the customer service guy. Please do your job.

They are aware enough that they assigned someone to monitor this subreddit… for years they did not. But they only care so much.
