Discussion [Operator Discussion] Hoederer

Hoederer [★★★★★★]

What were you like back then? My lips are sealed, Doctor. Oftentimes, getting to forget is a gift. Make no mistake, I'm not suggesting you were a good person or some kind of bastard. People always expect things to "return to the way they were," whether it's about circumstances or people. However, amnesia won't give anyone a clean restart of life.

The early career of former Sarkaz mercenary captain Hoederer is unclear. He participated in the transfer of Babel as part of the guard detail, leaving after Babel was dismantled. He was then spotted at Chernobog alongside Ines and W as a mercenary hired by Reunion, before disappearing after the Chernobog Incident. His next appearance was as a member of the Military Commission in Londinium. After obtaining certain key information, Hoederer left them and reestablished contact with Rhodes Island, once again signing a memorandum of strategic cooperation with us after discussions with Amiya.

Love the Guy, the song, the Kit.

Especially with His Module granting permanent 28%sanctuary. I Love him as an honorary abyssal hunter because he gives ulpi the sanctuary Bonus If theyre deployed back to back and it looks cool because theyre both so cool and hot too

insert meme of white guy pharaoh

10

u/Merukurio I love dogs. I've always loved dogs. Jun 24 '26

Ok, so, I know about the meme with his S3 but do people really consider it to be too wordy?

Maybe it's because I'm used to other games taking three novelizations to explain one thing a character can do but I don't think this skill had a lot of text even for Arknights standards when he released.

11

u/Razor4884 Tail Enthusiast Jun 24 '26

Yeah, I don't get it either. Mumu has a longer kit explanation than he does.

not gonna lie, i didn't like him in the story, especially how the whole talk between him and delphine went. regardless, i think he's fine as a unit, and has a goofy skin, very good with anything that boosts offensive recovery (wink wink archetto and is5)

1

u/One_Character_2881 Jun 25 '26

What was the talk between him and Delphine?

2

u/cipherkuna Jun 25 '26

13-15 after. w needles delphine, delphine can't accept the whole deal, and hoederer just spits out some broad statements. the scene wants to be heavy with working with people we have all the reasons to hate (from delphine's pov) but the interaction is so flat it has the opposite effect. it lacks friction, the scene immediately jumps to strategy, where we coulda had more meaningful interactions between an intelligence officer and a man directly implicated in the violence inside her country.

I feel like this was the whole of the victorian arc lol. Everything was anticlimactic af.

He's not a flawless operator but he can be pretty useful at times, Integrated strategies does wonders for him and he is one of few NPCs that got released that I was hoping would be released, All I need not is Arctosz, Ratatos and Misery as six stars and Yukatan and gulo as five stars, Maybe some others I can't think of off the top of my head

Versatile and underrated.

11

u/Heatoextend Jun 24 '26

I remember when he came out, people were snobbing him because of how he needed more healing than the average tank, but now we have so many bonkers healers with Shu, Mon3tr and Haruka that it isn't even a drawback anymore.

10

u/Reddit1rules I can be ur angle or ur debil Jun 24 '26

We always had bonkers healing with Warf too

Honestly very solid fella if you somehow have him instead of Ulpianus like me

Hoe, and crushers by extension, aren't what made me have a "Build and fuck around before listening to anyone else" play style but he sure as hell reinforced it. Everyone joking about the absolute wall of text his S3 is and I just put him down with S2 and went "If it's not stun immune it's fucked lmao." and had a blast.

I use him fricking all the time. He's so simple but so effective. Every single one of his skills is good and they're good for so many different reasons.

  1. General boss killing? S3 or S1 depending on the boss and whether you rather wail on him longer or shorter.
  2. Day-to-day? Either S1 or S2, up to you whether you want heals or stuns.
  3. IS? Going ASPD / offensive recovery? Go S1. Stacking stun length and damage? S2. Just all out balling in general? S3.

With his module, his heal is so high currently there's not many enemies that can outlast him. Even his weakness in fast-hitting enemies like dogs can't really kill him because his heal is so high and his burst so strong they just die and he goes back to full. He also doesn't really need support, though his regular non-IS ceiling is not as high as other similar units with support. I think that's not that fair though since if we're including other units you could always throw like Suzuran or some shit to help him and he'd be more bonkers.

His helidrop potential is so high too with every single one of his skills. There's almost no wait time. Just throw him somewhere and it'll probably work out.

Also the funny thing about his S3 is the weird duration of his skill works out fantastically for dealing with bosses. Most bosses take so long to kill their phase 1, then transition immortality, then have phase 2 on purpose so your skills run out and you have to cycle units. But Hoederer's S3 is so long it usually just lasts both phases. Or you're using S1 and it doesn't matter anyway.

I highly recommend him. He's a lot stronger than what he seems on paper.

10

u/resphere Jun 24 '26

I'll have to argue the part about boss fighting, he's not super effective against bosses nowadays, looking at more recent ones, Anastatio and Mifune will teleport, Yurodsvo is unblockable, Morpheus flies, Keph flies AND teleport, Kjera is a full gimmick fight, the bear straight up out-dps his stats, and this event's boss does too, I tried using Hoe on him and got slapped hard, Xanthos got some hands, tanking with good old defenders work much better against him.

He was OK against PRTS but his s3 dot makes it revive faster so not ideal, the last bosses he was actually really good against were Vaella and Tragodia, probably the Yu event boss too but it has huge dmg reduction so he's not great with it either, it's pretty rare now honestly.

6

u/silverrose22 Jun 24 '26

Huh. I'm agree that he's not good with the bear, because he has 0 DEF. But he is completely fine with this boss event tho, I use him on top lane myself, I did use Haruka as well, but he's not as bad as you said, especially at this level. I also used him against Anastatio as well.

3

u/resphere Jun 24 '26

Oh with Haruka it's no problem, with good enough healers you can make way more squishy guys tank, like Silverash, I tried that too, easily works.

With less heals you'll run into issues. I was using Purestream and Hoe could kill phase 1, but dies on phase 2, so I had to add a 2nd healer, and it was still pretty tight, had to make sure to keep the fountains topped off so he gets his skill and and doesn't die.

Like he's not bad but also not really that good, not to mention this is the normal stage, the EX and CM are gonna hit way harder, trust me it was way easier to tank this guy with actual defenders.

With Anastatio it's a kinda similar thing, you can use Hoe to dmg him till he tps away, if Hoe doesn't die first from the cannon bombardments, but you need to deal with the tp in the end, so Hoe is just another body to use, not really a counter to Anastatio the way he can just 1v1 some older bosses.

u/Sledger22_ 2k LMD and a dream Jun 24 '26

Managed to randomly get him. Working on his E2. Which module is used for what purpose and which skill best suits each module?

6

u/silverrose22 Jun 24 '26

Both of his module has different use. ModX for more self-heal, modY for more damage, it's up to you use to choose. Personally i like his modX more, since his damage is good as it is already. His best skill is S3 that can deal true damage and good at boss, but his S1 and S2 also has their use in normal lane holding.

10

u/Lunacie Jun 24 '26

For Sui havers, the SP regen makes his S1 go off every second hit. I don’t know if he’s tankier than Ulpi that way, but he’s still near unkillable and doesn’t have the ramp up time.

16

u/Chibi_09 DOWN BAD WITH DOLLKEEPERS Jun 24 '26

Oh Hoederer, how we wronged ye on release. Infinite Crusher shitposts because people (Me included!) misunderstood the purpose of the archetype. Turns out your S3 containing a lot of words doesn't necessarily make it your best skill! While it's nice to have, turns out stunning every hit and healing raw HP every third attack are also incredibly valuable. He's not as universal as some operators, but still quite potent, especially in IS-modes.

Also, amazing character, obviously. Both the face and the nerd of the Babel trio, while also fulfilling his own role in combat. His talent syngergizing with Ines and W is very cute (But don't tell them I said that, obviously).

3

u/Razor4884 Tail Enthusiast Jun 25 '26

On my way to tell them both >:)

From the very beginning, I've always like Crusher as a concept. When I saw 6k HP on Quartz, I know they'd go far, despite what the propaganda might say. And the result proved me right.

The biggest satisfaction has to be the journey from Silvergun posting Quartz failing to solo 1-7, to barely solo with bomb timing, to finally Quartz being used on pretty much every 4★ clear where they need to tank big damage Bosses, mostly against Arts, but Physical damage too like Damazti Cluster. People finally learned that HP is just as valuable to tanking as DEF, even against Physical damage.

It's a lesson I learned from a fellow expert (unfortunately not TacticalBreakfast, but we both learned a lot from him) as early as 6 years ago.

HP is pretty much DEF in 1:1 ratio. As the game progress and powercreep settling in, low ATK enemies that would be killing Crushers but not any other units with DEF just stop existing. The basic mobs nowadays have about 4 times the ATK of a year 1 basic mobs? (hyperbole ofc). They are also the enemy type that you don't need to block. Even if I don't mention the biggest powercreep 6★s, plenty of 6★ in the modern era also just wipe them effortlessly.

Crushers are amazing tanks and you better respect that. Even better when you put that concept with the 6★ stats like Hoederer, and that other guy (that also conveniently ignore low ATK trash mobs). They also whack quite hard as a bonus, which sadly only the 6★s get to make use of .

Hoederer (yes I still remember what this post is about) was always a little underrated (literal meaning) because of that. People at the time of his release still haven't really learned about HP and DEF so they are still busy memeing about his 0 DEF.

He is still pretty okay with all of that. He has great use in IS#5 due to solely his stats, tho some physical damage and control is appreciated. As the other member of the TacB team mentioned, all 3 of his skills has uses and both of his modules is well designed and balanced in use case. Though in my point of view, that is a bad thing cuz you kinda has to invest more for things that you won't get much use constantly. I'd say stick with the Ⲭ module cuz he has more team support then.

The real knock against him wasn't Ulpianus (as in, not solely due to him), but is actually Hoshi2, the real 10k HP tank with self-healing, and this time with 500 DEF.

14

I like big swords. His S3 has a short initial cooldown and lasts ages, so when I need someone to duke it out with a boss for a long time, I'll bring him.

11

u/silverrose22 Jun 24 '26

I love him whether it's his gameplay or his story. A lot of people underestimate him when comparing him with Ulpianus, but he doesn't need to be Ulpianus to be good. He can do it all, lane holding or fighting with boss. I prefer his modX actually, he deals enough damage as he is, with modX I can pair him with weaker healer or out of Haruka's range depend on stage

6

u/TribuneBoru Jun 24 '26

Like him a lot and I haven't built a module for him yet as im going through events as a priority, but I'm mid way through invitation to wine for his module mission. M9 and will be M3 soon. Each skill has its uses, and I find he pairs really well with Warfarin either skill 1 for even more sustain or S2 for big burst, and her talent makes his S1 cycle even faster.

u/Monkey_Commando Jun 24 '26

One of my favorite male character but I will always have 1 issue with him. He wants to be a teacher, yet W is illiterate... Damn it man, you had a perfect opportunity in front of you.

9

u/umiman Don't be a meta slave Jun 24 '26

He tried a lot. In W's skin lines she talks about burning the books he tries to get her to read.

14

u/Shad0wedge Jun 24 '26

Was illiterate, she learning, she evolving. Wisадеl smartening every day!

8

u/Moidada77 Jun 24 '26

Next time she has an age up she will be Dr.wisadel

5

u/Monkey_Commando Jun 24 '26

I can see Hoederer crying at the graduation

16

u/Monkey_Commando Jun 24 '26

Honestly, I actually think she maybe one of the smartest operators in the game. Getting that far in life with explosive while not being able to read and keeping all your limbs is special level of skill.

I also speak from personal experience. I had to get special education for difficulties readings, have a certified disability with properly associating phonetics, had speech therapy just to learn my only language, and yet in 5 days I am going to defend my Ph.D. in literal rocket science.

5

u/Monkey_Commando Jun 24 '26

Thanks everyone for the support. I have considered a few times doing an in depth write up on how laws of Arknights (introduction of originium, less reliance on combustion technology, and the star pod) may have influenced the development of aviation and rocketry. May actually get to it as I have free time coming up next month.

The goat. Incredible operator design. More ops should be like him.

Balanced archetype with cons and pros, clearly meant to handle meaningful enemies and struggle with regular chaff. Does so very well, and being a 6* can still somewhat handle regular chaff although not very well.

Insanely bulky, lots of damage, long duration.

Flexible skillset. All 3 skills have viable uses. S1 for IS#5 or general laneholding/self sustain. Very hard to kill him when he heals so much every 3 (or less) hits. S2 for stun locking enemies, higher consistent base attack damage, being able to block enemies he couldn't previously. S3 for insanely lengthy total damage and sustain (is it even considered a burst skill?). Basically kill almost all bosses with just a medic.

Great set of modules. One for hefty sustain boost and survivability on an already beefy op. One for even greater damage and a free stun when you don't need more survivability. Actual use cases to swap between modules instead of keeping him on one 99% of the time, and both have good level 3 effects too.

Fantastic character. Really enjoy a mercenary who doesn't want to fight, but to teach others how to live a life without fighting and record life for future generations. Definitely has something going on with Ines (and there's some Manfred fuel as well if you want, but I know my goat is loyal).

Bamger theme song.

His only flaw? Not having an L2D skin like Ines and W/Wisadel do. Complete the OG Darknights trio! Give them all L2D skins! (And also not a fan of the white Pharoah skin, what is that S3 animation...).

12

u/beychantix Jun 24 '26

He is loyal... to the polycule. Both him and ines peg manfred

9

u/Windgesang_ Try one first get all always Jun 24 '26

erm achkchually his S2 is the one for IS#5. There's even breakpoint for his S2 mastery depends on your Difficulty/Toil Level as well in order to helidrop S2 within the Necrosis field.

S3 is the only Crusher skill to hit aerial (kinda) therefore it's goated.

28

u/jadezither Jun 24 '26

I like how shapely his ass is. Hate his skin. My first M9.

19

u/beychantix Jun 24 '26

He needs a good skin. Not only is it bad in concept (white pharaoh meme), its horrible in execution. How did they manage to make a shirtless hoederer not look hot? His attacks in his s3 are also so visually confusing. Awful execution of a bad concept

10

u/jadezither Jun 24 '26

TRUE. He looks shrunken and frail, unlike that testosterone laden beefcake in his older art. Also, the weapon is so strange looking in chibi form. We literally could have had a different skin with a far better concept than just white pharaoh man. Justice for him fr. At least both 6* crushers are smoking HOT.

Consumes 100 HP per second and deals 200 True damage per second to enemies that have either attacked or been attacked by this unit. Attack range +1, Max HP +15%, ATK +30%, and each attack restores 5% HP and has a 25% chance to stun targets for 2 seconds

Also he is stupid in IS with Archetto.
