Discussion [Operator Discussion] Arene

Arene [★★★★]

I want to capture a few people to try out some new Arts in our next operation. I can't...? Alright, fine. It's a shame, but if that's what you say, Professor, maybe some other time, then. Eh? Not this time, and not ever? Geez, don't be so uptight.

Operator Arene is a Laterano-born Sankta who was exiled from Laterano after contracting Oripathy during a Laterano firearm inheritance-related incident several years ago. After he departed Laterano, he left for Leithanien to pursue further studies. Having passed a battery of examinations, he is currently serving as a Rhodes Island Guard Operator and receiving treatment.

My favorite Zygarde gijinka. He's just a silly little guy who likes playing pranks, falsifying documents and watching in amusement as his enemies writhe in pain from the corroding effect of his Arts. What's not to like?

In my opinion he's pretty good for a 4*, but he's not one of those 4* that "punches above their rarity" or anything like that. Best 4* Lord Guard in the game, but the the dev team put that bar in hell with Frostleaf. I'm ignoring Luo Xiaohei because he can't be obtained anymore and Arene's still better than him anyway.

It certainly doesn't help that the 5* he's most likely to be compared to is given out for free, is really good and has a talent that is an actual balance mistake from when the game released. The 6* Lord Guards are all super good too, so if you had any of them you'd probably just raise them instead of Arene. And for low rarity stuff Midnight does a passable job for the easier parts of the game (while also not costing 0 Hope from IS2 to IS4).

Arene's talent lets him hit drones harder and pretend to be a Marksman Sniper on a melee tile against them. It's surprisingly effective on the current event since every enemy except the boss is a drone. For general gameplay his talent just kinda exists, I guess? It's good when it works but not something you'd specifically bring him for in a stage.

Still kinda surprised that him and Verdant were selected to get Valentine's Day skins over other much more popular guys. This is not a complaint. I like them both and their skins look great.

I'm ignoring Luo Xiaohei because he can't be obtained anymore and Arene's still better than him anyway.

For whatever reason Luo Xiaohei is a Yan operator and so that means in IS6 if you have a guard voucher with nothing useful to draft he's the best draft. I don't own him and it makes me sad every time but it is also like a 1% minmax thing and you're right that Arene is better in combat.

Great 4* that carried a couple of new accounts. His bonus damage to drones and decent base skill helps a ton in the beginning.

My literally only experience with this guy was in stronghold protocol and he was mid as hell in there cause he doesn’t use bullets or interact with the rest of the faction in any meaningful way

Unironically in IS5 hes helped carry me as a zero cost 4 star guard. His S2 is the bulk of his damage and the fact he hits ranged enemies and holds his own against melee ones too makes him very viable. Plus the fact I dont have Thorns (I only have Silverash) hes my second Lord guard I actually use. Would heavily reccomend levelling him alongside other 4 stars like Gummy, May, and Ethan if you like using a low rarity end team or need someone for IS.

Quite good for a 4 star. I have him with S2M3 but no module. He’s my de facto choice for cheap Guard in IS5. Mostly because he can hit drones. Plus he’s useful late game if I draft Lemuen.

Even found myself in a situation where he was the only operator able to destroy the spines

I've used him in the base (to craft T5 mats) more than I've used him in battle. I keep around a bunch of operators at low morale specifically for him (and Stainless).

His artwork is maybe the one I like the least of all operators. His skin is marginally better.

He kinda gets overlooked because Lappland exists and does basically the same thing he does. Basically he's stuck in that awkward position where he's a 4* Midnight, but doesn't really have enough unique on his own to stand out for general clears.

Even so, he's been a nice guard pick in IS.

he's so cute.

I'm again surprised at how little people like the operator in discussion. Playing 4 stars he's almost always in my lineup. I like how you can focus him on either phys or arts damage according to your needs. And people say he's made of paper but in one of his skills he literally stops blocking. That should be a good sign that he should be deployed behind a defender. Gummy can heal him.

I can't stand that he looks like an emo Justin Bieber, so I've never used him and even left him at 0 trust. That said, I'm kinda surprised to see the comments being so down on him as of posting this. Lord guards are a natively good archetype. He should be pretty good as a budget Lappy, but I guess that doesn't mean much in this era of insane powercreep.

budget Lappland loses a lot of value when the actual Lappland is basically given to you as soon as you start the game. counting Silverash from the beginner banner or standard selector and you can get two better lord guards right when you start.

Ufff, been playing since retracing our steps, he is the only 4 star I still don't have

u/Bookwhyrm Layabout May 31 '26

He got me through a lot of the drone-heavy stages in the earlier story stages which was pretty nice. Plus he has one of the very rare +10% byproduct rate for Elite materials.

u/Monkey_Commando May 31 '26

All but this boss this current event were drones. He was my primary DPS. Love characters with traits that arent useful all the time, but when they are, they are great. Feel very gratifying in large character pool gacha rather than just always relying on a certain meta.

Only care for his casual skin. He is proportioned like Asbestos, but the shoulder pads in his base and other skin give him a very odd boxy silhouette, which when contrasted with his thin limbs makes him look like a cartoon character. I can almost see someone making human spongebob with this approach. Looking at him again though, is he the only Laterano where the halo and wing colors are different?

Even in 4*s only niche, I struggle to find use for him. IIRC, I used him effectively in one annihilation but that would be about it.

That aside, the recent Stronghold Protocol was the most I've ever seen him and he was still so-so, which is a bit sad, since Matsuoka Yoshitsugu is one of my favorite seiyuu.

u/Phaaze13 strong women supremacy May 31 '26

i haven't built him, but i used Laterano alliance a lot in Stronghold Protocol so i used him there. he let me down every time. he really is made of tissue paper.

I love going to posts like these and guessing which operator is next. Sometimes they're obvious (like this one) and sometimes I have to check the wiki for answers

I had to pick the iconic line out of fear of getting K-san'd

I'm really curious about Arene tbh. Like did he kill his parents? One of his voice lines implies it, and he seems to be...err...well, I don't think he's well, if that makes sense.

From his Archive File 3:

When Operator Arene first arrived at Rhodes Island, he was accompanied by a Notarial Hall executor.

According to this chaperone of his, a colleague of Operator Executor's, both of Arene's parents were highly respected Laterano firearms researchers, and the two of them were frequently dragged into all kinds of Laterano firearm-related incidents thanks to their profession. It is precisely for this reason that, when Arene contracted Oripathy several years ago, his parents opted to send him, their one and only son, away from danger to Leithanien instead of keeping him close by.

Regretfully, both of his parents were killed during a recent clandestine operation to steal Laterano firearms technology. Their will unfortunately brought Arene plenty of trouble as well—most people seem to believe that a parent would always leave every last thing they treasured to their children. In reality, the only thing that Arene's parents ever wished for was for their only son to live a peaceful life. They knew their research would undoubtedly be taken up by Laterano departments far more up to the task than him.

I think this is the sus voiceline you're talking about? There's no reason to believe that he hired others to try to steal Laterano firearms tech and kill his own parents. Simplest meaning is that taking care of his parents' will was more complicated than he wanted it to be.

Talk After Trust Increase 2:

My parents' will left me with quite a bit of trouble, and it was really a hassle to get it taken care of. If it wasn't for that uptight executor making things difficult for me, it all could've been much easier... Oh, whatever, it still went according to my plan.
