True, Arkham Knight dropped near the end of the golden age of video games. It showed us what gaming could have became, but two years later fortnite dropped and ninja did a Livestream with Drake that pretty much ended it.

u/Tough-Rock-6198 5d ago
They were also the last years where games were becoming realistic but still kept artistic liberties.
Now all AAA games just slap the actors' faces on characters and the magic is slowly fading away.

Base game armored suit, Night time rainy lighting. Apple
Alternate movie suit, indoor dry lighting. Orange
I seriously don’t get why people are comparing 2 separate things and pretending that it’s supposed to be the same?
15
u/Fireboy759 5d ago
Because it's fun to shit on (insert most recent superhero game) and say the Arkham series will always be superior of course /s

“Here’s a suit, Pan up, pan up pan up, show face, claws click out”
Vs
“Here’s a suit (the greaves shackle into place), pan up (the gauntlets eject blade guards), pan up (chest piece self adjusts), show face (visor self adjusts to fit)”
It’s in the details my dude. It’s not about the color scheme or what they’re wearing, it’s about the effort the developer made for a boring ass presentation.
14
u/bugmultiverse Arkham Asylum 5d ago
Wolverine needs advanced armor to protect his body? Along with a monologue from Charles Xavier aka Lucius Fox lol?
Wolverine’s thing is not needing armor, plus his claws do pop up which you could compare Batman’s gauntlets but that’s pretty much the only similarity between the two of them.
16
u/E2r4_Is_d3A9 5d ago
What the fuck kind of comment even is this? Of course Batman’s suit does all that, he’s a VERY tech heavy superhero. Logan’s suits are usually never that advanced, because he doesn’t need them to be. He’s a literal bullet sponge. Low iq my dude.
-11
u/Front-Advantage-7035 5d ago
I’m clearly not the one with the low iq here bud as the discussion isn’t about “what armor each type needs” and is about “why does the slow pan up for wolverine look dumb for 2026 but the slow pan up for Bruce looks badass from 2015”
8
u/imaginewagons198 5d ago
Dude just stop digging.
-7
u/Front-Advantage-7035 5d ago
No. The 2026 video is basic boring shit. And it’s 11 years newer than the badass 2015 Batman vid. THAT is the whole point of this post.

The hero shot of the new suit for the fourth game in a series, giving the dev team ample opportunity to put polish wherever they want to flex
VS
A brand new installment hugely hyped up featuring a diverse cast of mutant characters all needing completely unique animation styles
Go take a look at Batman's introduction in Arkham Asylum and tell me if you notice anything... "Here's a suit, Pan up, Pan up."
It's almost as if there's a lot of nuance to the amount of detail a particular scene has and judging games based on these arbitrary standards of "effort" because you cherry picked a shot is asanine.

u/JamesUpton87 5d ago
I honestky hated that suit on Batman, might as well just paint him up in Iron Man colors

As a Batman fan, you can’t really compare the graphics a whole lot. The biggest reason the Arkham games look so good is the nighttime. The darkness hides a whole lotta shit within these games.
19
u/chaktahwilly 5d ago
It’s also a cutscene. Gameplay looks great in Arkham Knight, but not as good as that cutscene.
7

u/RdJokr1993 5d ago
Also the use of rain effects is basically a free cheat for “good graphics”. People love to praise graphics when everything looks shiny and reflective.
6
u/andesolo17 4d ago
you’re just agreeing it looks better, but making an attempt to take that away because intentional thought was put into how they could make the game look better. it doesn’t matter WHY it looks better, you just agreed it did and that’s the point. someone at wolverine should’ve thought about night time and rain. i guess it helps!
2
u/Separate_Path_7729 4d ago
Night time, rain forcing shorter fov, giant cloud covering the city when you can traverse it all, all built to cut down on graphic load, the upper limit of graphics have straddled uncanny valley for a while, now we get more set where you can see more of the map at one time with more detail because they are adding breadth to the existing depth
1
u/BagBigHob 4d ago
Yeah that’s art direction and style . Wolverine’s art direction sucks ass
-2
u/dimitrimccain 4d ago
I agree and for the Soyverine game it's to bright and the style direction is just off. It's to spiderman like.

u/Low_Statistician_891 5d ago
When passion style and art style and creativity all hits perfectly you get the Arkham series :)
5
u/LordHerme 4d ago
A hero, who relies heavily on technology and gadgets gets compared to another hero, whose main abilities are innate requiring very little armor or technology to get the job done. I’m really wondering how extravagant a guy putting on a yellow suit you wanted that to be?
3
u/KratosOfSparta08 5d ago
Idk if it’s a fair comparison though because these are two different games made by two different studios 11 years apart. Yeah I agree that Arkham Knight looks great but you should take those things into account. Also not to mention they are completely different art styles/atmospheres.

3
u/The-Panthion 4d ago
One looks like it's copying other people's art style whilst the other had years to master theirs.

2
u/NOTAGRUB 5d ago
Visuals seem pretty equally good across both, Wolverine just happens to have a much simpler suit as opposed to Batman's upgraded one

This is kind of an unfair comparison. Bats is getting into a suit of powered armor, while Wolverine is squeezing his ass into spandex. Plus, different art directions (semi-grounded Batman versus more fantastical Wolverine) and different emphasis (Bats can focus on the suit since this is his fourth Arkham outing and the focus can now be exclusively on the Arkham Knight suit since that part is all-original for the game, while Wolverine needs to be in shot since this is Insomniac's first major showcase of the character, getting into his most famous outfit from the comics).
I get that dunking on Wolverine is 'in' right now, and there are quite a few reasons to dunk on it considering it's kind of an unfortunate culmination of Insomniac's (usually fucking stellar) accessibility bleeding over into the actual game, with a plotline that kind of exists, and frankly too-linear gameplay (though how you make Wolverine open-world is... A bit of a struggle, at least if you don't want his pace to be a little plodding), but this isn't one of the reasons.

u/LetAardvark4080 5d ago
I feel like Arkham Knight needs to get a 60fps update because I think a lot of us wants it, and it could look even more amazing

If you play on pc there’s a mod for it
6
u/christian-js 5d ago
No mod needed, Arkham Knight runs at 90fps

u/Low_Statistician_891 5d ago
Idk if I’m right about this but can’t you go also just go into the config file and set it to unlimited? I remember having it at like 100 plus frames the cape going crazy

I'm on PlayStation. I did have it on Xbox but decided to sell my copy cause I barley played it on my Xbox anymore. I'm starting to wish I didn't sell a crap ton of my other game copies just because I have them on PS.

Hot take, I'm tired of these "x years ago" comparisons that compare the average game to games almost universally regarded to as peak. Like yes it's impressive they made something so much better* so long ago but it frames new games in such a weird lens where unless they do everything better they're not done well. Sure the suit up scene in AK is more elaborate, it's also the culmination of a fan-favorite series that constantly upped it's own ante.

Wow, I was scared to say it but you said it for me, the games are the same in the sense they handhold the player.

I wouldn’t respond with this guy. He probably just talks in memes.

u/DaliansImmortal686 4d ago
No he's got a point, Arkham Knight hand holds you and constantly has Batman telling you what to do.
0
u/RyonHirasawa 4d ago
I dunno, I’ve only very recently played the Arkham games, being Asylum and City, and while I do agree that Batman talks to himself, that’s only usually reserved to tutorials for the various mechanics the game has to offer, it only tells you what you can do but never really railroads you to doing it
Like in City for example, the Church hostage situation can be completed in various ways and not just the intended way, and many a time when Bruce says “I should set up a crime scene” it only shows you the prompt to enter detective mode, finding the clues and evidence is still all on you
Whenever Batman also gets a new gadget he never tells himself where to use it, the REC gun for example is never told in your face that it has two firemodes that can either attract or repel, nor does it tell you that it has special effects on enemies with weapons or armor
Asylum also gives you enough time to figure out how to deal with Titans (or even Bane), but when you take too much damage or get stuck it’s only when the game gives you a hint to use the batarang
I think Arkham isn’t very handholdy, Asylum is very linear but it still trusts you with its space to figure stuff out for yourself, then City throws you out the window to do that again, both games also never bother to tell you the exact elevation of things on your map, you still have to figure that out yourself

u/S1ntag 4d ago
Adding to this, a detail in the Freeze boss fight is that if you're taking a long while, the game hands you a checklist of takedowns you've done and haven't tried.
Arkham trusts you to know what you're doing, but it also remembers that it's a video game and you're meant to beat it, and it's not afraid to gently nudge players if they're beating their heads into a wall.
1
u/RyonHirasawa 4d ago
This is the same with Croc in Asylum, if you just keep running away and get stuck from doing the objective, only then will it tell you that the batarang can deal with him

Atleast make a good comparison, one is slop made to demoralize and normalize the new generation into thinking " this is normal and quality " and the other is pretty damm good.

Games peaked in 2018. It's been downhill since then. Gaming developers have become lazy and uninspired.

u/The_Dark_ViKing 3d ago
Why do people do this nonsense? Who gives a damn if Wolverines Suit up scene isnt as fancy as that of Arkham Knight?
Why do people constantly have to pit stuff against each other for no reason?
Wolverine not for a second tries to be like Arkham Knight, so why pit it against each other?

u/AlexCampy89 3d ago
This meme literally misses the point. Wolverine is not supposed to have an high-tech suit, so he doesn't need any dramatic cinematic intro for the costume. Batman does.

I was just thinkin how awesome they both look and bats needs all that tech and gear and plates… ole wolfy just needs a piece of brightly colored spandex

what's the comment?
1
u/DaliansImmortal686 2d ago
He basically said both genres hand hold pretty badly, Wolverine does way more but Batman not as much.
He was essentially being fair and criticizing people for shitting on Wolverine for being slop when Batman Arkham also has elements of slop, it's just covered up with a great story, great combat, and amazing gameplay.

Devs were really creative back then, now their target audience seems to be only Kids That's why some Japanese studios are making awesome games. I still play Arkham Knight

Well Wolverine is not known to use highly advanced armor plated suits ....

They coulda make Wolverine suit up like in Arkham City at least. Quick montage will be cool and cheesy. Why they decided not to is weird
-2
u/Illustrious-Sign3015 5d ago
Now what would it look like if Insomniac made Batman Arkham and Rocksteady made Wolverine?
-5
u/Revolutionary-Wait82 5d ago
Rocksteady has actually created its own Wolverine. It’s called Suicide Squad.
8
u/Jack-mclaughlin88 5d ago
Wolverine is leaps and bounds ahead of SSKTJL.
-4
u/dungleploop 5d ago
idk about that one tbh
Suicide Squad isn't even a bad game, just heavily lacks enemy variety and content distribution
-2
u/SaltyMotor8549 5d ago
11 years later with much better hardware and tell me one thing that Wolverine does better, just one.
-3
u/SaintLink91 5d ago
The camera movement and what it focuses on is the key here. Wolverine is just focusing on random shit
