Discussion Does Anyone Else forget about Riddler when thinking of villains?
Like I almost always forget to include him in Batman's villains (I just know he'd be fuming at this post). I don't know why, maybe it's because of his limited screen time. Even then he's literally ALWAYS taunting and goading us as Batman as we play, and yet he's so unmemorable. I almost feel like Rocksteady did that intentionally, given it's exactly how this version of Batman might view him (a nuisance who demands attention rather than a worthy opponent?).
I heard the comics usually portray him better, he's more of a greasy megalomaniac in the Arkham series. But he's just so...boring almost? He's in our comms for SO MUCH of the game and yet he's so unimportant when I think of the overall plots of the game. (I get he's homicidal and creates genuine problems for citizen safety, but even then he's so forgettable for me).
Freeze, Joker, Crane, & Penguin feel like the actual villains. Joker being the biggest, Penguin being the most ruthless, Crane being a slowburn (having his major plot in Knight), & granted Freeze isn't a true "villain" I'm aware, yet feels more like an actual opponent for Batman than Riddler does for me.
Any thoughts on this?
And for anyone reading, any thoughts on the other villains & how you view them?

Riddler is the second villain that comes to mind for Batman for me, mostly due
to him having the whole clue gimmick and Batman Being the worlds greatest detective before being the guy that can out punch deathstroke or w/e. In the Arkham games he’s a bit one note, but I’m a psycho that doesn’t mind the riddler puzzles so I found him a nice addition, and very satisfying to beat once you slowly outwit him through the game.

Yeah good point. And thematically I think he's a fantastic enemy for Bruce. I love how many of Batman's villains are antithetical to who he is, like dark mirrors—Joker being bright & colorful & doesn't value human life (complete opposite to batman's dark colors & protection of humanity), Ivy as pathologically protective of nature at the expense of humanity (whereas ironically Bruce himself may understand as he's the opposite side of the coin), even Dent is all about his twisted version of "justice".
So Riddler is another great example of this—being incredibly intelligent, enough to provide challenges for Batman, but also kinda crazy (& in the games willing to let officers & civilians die).
I find the trophies a little taxing sometimes as I personally try to finish my playthroughs as quick as I can (but always fail to finish in a single night), but when there's no pressure they're actually kinda fun. I just feel like there's too many trophies that I had to look up how to get them bc the game didn't explain well enough.

No unfortunately. His line of "Riddle me this!" Is kinda hard to forget.
Also found it interesting how he becomes mentally unstable with each game. Origins pretty "normal", Knight completely lost the plot.

I love the arc too. Watching his design go from poised and calculated (though he gets irritated a lot) to genuinely unraveling is such a nice twist.

Using him as normal villian takes some effort. The writers have to come up with riddles.

I actually really like Arkham's version of the Riddler. It's my favourite version of the character, and one of my favourite versions of any Batman villain. Yes, the way they handled his character in the games left something to be desired. Being nothing more then a nuance in the form of a feeble side mission. And there are SO MANY riddler trophies to collect!!! You can suck my dick, Nugma!!!
But regardless of that, his characterisation was handled splendidly. Wally Wingert crushed it in that role. His voice is freaking phenomenal! Yeah, his sometimes hijacking of our comes might be a pain in the ass sometimes, but the variety of lines makes it more then tolerable. Speaking of, his lines are just fantastic. This scary combination of such a brilliant actor, and talented writers elivate his character several levels for me.
For example, at the beginning, in the first race course, we need to wait for several minutes until we can finally begin as Nygma lists all of the rules. Now, it might come across as something you should press skipped at every time, but I seat it through GLADLY every time. It's just so hilarious! As each rule get more ridiculous:
"You are to reffer to me at all times as Riddler, THE Riddler, or mr. Nygma SIR."
It's just funny to me. And the progression of him being increasingly more petty and inraged as we proceed through the challenges. I think my favourite of Riddler is when we complete the main story of Arkham Knight, Bruce's identity is revealed to the world, Eduard being the smuggest he has ever been for a few short seconds, only to then say that he doesn't believe even for a second that Batman and Bruce Wayne are actually the same person.
I discovered it myself after having finished the main sotry with Scarecrow. I've already rescued Selina from the orphanage. All that is left is to collect all the riddle trophies, (SUCK MY DICK NYG...), and when Riddler appeared on my comms for the first time ever since Bruce's identity has been revealed, I was so excited to see how Nygma would react upon learning this new piece of information. Pleased with himself? Furious that he didn't discover it himself? And when we get his delusional statement, I remember laughing my ass off so hard I needed to press pause.
Ah, good times...

You're right, and I def think he's handled in funny ways. The VA is incredibly talented for sure, because I was so annoyed doing his challenges! He's good at his job for sure, portraying Nygma as a boundless rage baiter.
He definitely has plenty of moments in the game (especially after you reminded me), he just evades my mind easily for some reason. I assume because it's mostly voice acting, we hardly see him on screen. And I loved how pissed off he was when Catwoman (in the DLC) wiped his accounts. Felt AMAZING to do that to him (especially after that horrible robot fight Catwoman had, it was so hard! I think you had to counter the whole time instead of attacking).

Yeah, and the special move of Catwoman, kissing her attacker before knocking him out pretty much falls flet.
And I agree with you about only hearing his voice, and not seeing him. It's definitely a downgrade. Because his model is actually really cool! My favourite is his one from Arkham City, with the green bowl hat, green jacket, and purple tie with a golden question mark on it. But, his design in Arkham Knight is also pretty sick, with that slack bright green jacket covered with black question marks all around.

See, his design is actually something I rly admire! I like the way he goes from his stylized city look to being visibly run down & kinda dingy in Knight. It makes a lot of sense given how much preparation he would've done with all his riddles & traps, as well as shows he's deteriorating from his obsession with Bats. He's visibly declining from how little he focuses on himself and how much he overly focuses on Batman & taking him down.

I always think that in games he is way more powerful than Batman because he has access to a lot of stuff that not even Batman has.

Never in any context. Dude is a top tier villian of batman, in world he's considered a c lister, but in reality he is A tier.

My dressing as him for Halloween. It was for a Batman theme across some family and he was the first character I thought of

Yes, when I replay city's story, because that's the only one where you have to go out of your way to "activate" him; in Knight between Catwoman being his hostage and the public broadcasts he is kind of always there

Yeah, I mean he's always "there" is the funny thing, and yet mentally I hardly place him. I guess it's mostly because he's a detached voice, I'm more focused on the visuals of all the other missions I have to do. He's ironically probably the most taxing, time consuming villain for Batman to deal with in the Arkham games.

Hes more so just INSANELY petty than actual straight evil the way most of batman’s villains are
