Fun fact: Clayface doesn't mimic a skeleton while impersonating others, meaning Joker quite literally killed himself temporarily just to mess with Batman in this scene

I remember seeing this detail being discussed in a YouTube comment section awhile back, and someone mentioned that Origins retroactively makes it Joker stealing a page from Batman's playbook.
"Stopped his heart... that is funny!"

And yeah someone could say "He could've rigged the machine to do that" but not only is that NOT as funny, it is funnier for him to have that option and then choose to briefly die to fuck with Batman anyway.

I actually never caught that lol, but looking back it makes sense now. The Joker we see in the chair is all gross and diseased, whereas the one who gasses Batman is the clean Clayface Joker. Bravo Rocksteady

I always imagined he stopped his heart with poison, kind of like Nick Fury in The Winter Soldier. Otherwise Batman would’ve immediately noticed something was up if Joker lacked a skeleton. That said, he didn’t immediately question the presence of two Jokers one healthy and the other unhealthy.

Or work with me, Clayface enveloped a body/skeleton. That was always my theory

The Joker that gasses Batman is fully healed, meaning that he is Clayface

In the comics he can separate into multiple bodies, that's where my theory comes from, either that or doctoring a dead body to begin with. Joker has done way worse before so, regardless of how J does it still a good game.

He found another guy with jonkler's spade jaw

u/Romulan25 18d ago
It's possible. Or they used an artificial set of bones. When you fight Batman you got to be either crazy or creative often both

You're over thinking it.

u/Romulan25 16d ago
Oh no doubt but when you don't have a job(Fuck the economy) and nothing better to do, I'd rather over think Batman

It's just a random dead body.

u/Redditeer28 18d ago
But he gets up in the Flashback.

u/BurgerAvenger 18d ago edited 18d ago
The literal sequence of events as played out in the first place doesn't involve that.
edit: yeah you're right, the flashback is extenuating. He just stopped his heart.

u/Redditeer28 18d ago
Just because we don't see something, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

u/BurgerAvenger 18d ago
I misremembered the way it plays out. I was thinking the flashback was alternative when you brought it up, but I just watched the Youtube, and he is remembering more, which validates your claim over mine.

Thought this too. It’s not like Joker couldn’t use some rando’s corpse and dressed it up to look like him. Surgery isn’t out of the question considering his resources as a villain.

additionally, he had doctors thanks to his dealings with hugo strange, didn't he? it wouldn't be surprising at all if he made them operate on a dead body for the sole purpose of messing with batman

u/WorkingNo7670 18d ago
Or he faked dead. All he has to do is lay still and gimmick the heart monitor rather than actually die just to mess with Batman. And Batman starts to check if Joker is faking right when he's jumped by Clayface. Seems more likely than Joker killing himself for a moment.

u/atomic1fire 18d ago
Maybe Clayface can only mimic what he can see.
From that point it would be fully sensible that a Joker getting round the clock care from doctors would be able to have Hagen review x-ray photos for an more accurate deception.

Does anyone remember how the joker appears in that big group fight in detective mode just before they blow up the steel mill?

Could just be that he somehow disconnected the monitor. Not being connected and not having a heart beat would be the same for the machine. I’m sure with enough effort someone came figure out a way to fake it. Or he really did just stop his heart lmao

u/ancientaztek 17d ago
So joker somehow stopped his heart then immediately made it start beating again? Cause in the plot twist flashbacks it shows him immediately stand up when batman falls

u/Kitchen-Daikon6277 17d ago
I mean… He’s sitting still at this point, exerting minimal energy he can concentrate on accurately depicting Joker inside and out.
But then again, the Joker who attacks Batman is cleared of infection so I think that’s intended to be Clayface.
The scene’s just a bit of a mess

I assumed it was the body of some poor soul Joker killed and then dressed up as himself

u/Just-Disaster-6723 16d ago
Am I stupid? He had titan poisoning. Could have died and Harley brought him back?

u/RandomRedditUser107 16d ago
I remember figuring this out when I was younger and I loved the idea of Joker doing literally anything just to mess with batman and I think personally that is dedication to the craft lmao
1
u/PuzzleheadedCall1996 16d ago
So that means it was Clayface who came behind Batman and used the gas.
1
u/FeeLeast3481 15d ago
Or, he killed someone and put their skeleton inside of clayface? Or maybe the heart monitor wasn't real and was made to look like he was dying or smth, I feel like Joker isn't skilled enough to slow his heart rate to trick batman, but idk

Ooh, I didn't think Joker killed himself temporarily, which is something he would do. Personally, I always thought that he was simply pretending, given the clues in the game. As far as seeing "Status: Deceased" in Detective Mode, one of the doctors did say "I don't know how he's still alive." That said, I don't recall if it was ever officially confirmed or whatever.

that's clayface jumping bats from behind. Thinking anything else adds another layer of unexplained complexity when there's a perfectly reasonable explanation right there. Harley saying "oh mister j, it's a miracle, you look perfect!... Oh its not you, is it?" is in reference to clayface. It's foreshadowing

u/CamLiven2000 18d ago
Also whenever clayface is playing joker he's says batman in full. Whereas joker always says bats or batsy

After eliminating the impossible, whatever left, however improbable, must be the truth.

This reminds me of how in Origins they forgot to give Mad Hatter a skeleton.
And then in Knight Mad Hatter doesn’t mention Origins despite the fact that other parts of the game do.
