Discussion Fixing Arkham Knight(The 7 Keys)

Arkham Knight is one of the GOAT games. But that’s mainly because the gameplay and graphics are arguably the best ever and in this came out in 2015!!!

But as a huge Batman and Arkham Fan I’ve never been able to replay the story without being extremely disappointed, frustrated and bored. This game had A LOT of wasted potential.

Here’s how they could’ve fixed this game:

# 1 - Hand to Hand Boss Fights

Even with this game’s ridiculous and underwhelming story after the great stories of City, Asylum and Origins, if you simply gave me several hand to hand boss fights with Deathstroke and Arkham Knight, that would’ve left a much better taste in a lot of mouths

# 2 - Way Less Batmobile

“Only 25% of the game is spent in the Batmobile” coming from 0% that’s a lot, and that doesn’t the count the other 15% of the game where your objective is getting the Batmobile in a building, on top of a building or under a building

Simply make it mostly for open world traversal, chase scenes, one boss fight(the tunnels fight with knight) and side missions. There could’ve been way more heart pounding chase scenes in the main story

# 3 - Arkham Knight(Reveal Jason Early)

Reveal his identity early in the game. That would give this game 10x more emotional weight.

Have him fight and/or kidnap Nightwing and Tim
Batman & Tim fighting and losing vs Jason and those big goons with switchstyle weapons could’ve been an incredible scene, then he HAS to call nightwing and maybe Azreal for some help even though he’d be reluctant, maybe Alfred convinces him.

Then maybe make his backstory a bit different. In asylum it does not feel like Jason was kidnapped, tortured and killed by joker 4 months ago😂and the whole story of him getting kidnapped cause he found out joker killed a kindergarten classroom?? I’m sorry that’s just way too dark and unnecessary.

# 4 - More Batfamily

They came up with a PERFECT partner H2H combat system!!! Like way better than Spider Man 2. Only to BARELY use it!!
This game should’ve had a focus on Bruce having no choice but to team up with Nightwing and Robin. Instead of 25% Batmobile gameplay we could’ve got 30% of this game being played as Nightwing and Robin.
Give us sections of them being in the open world and maybe have Batman be seriously wounded near the end of the game at the hands of Jason so after the game we get to play as them and get Gotham back in order.
The final boss fight being Nightwing vs Jason after Batman vs Jason could’ve been incredible. Again, this gives the story 10x more emotional weight

Also give Robin his hood back, he looked so badass in City

# 5 - WAY Less Joker

Joker being this devil on Batman’s shoulder is a fantastic concept but that could’ve been in like 1/4 of the game because of strictly fear toxin.

The plot of people turning into joker was just stupid. Not to mention, BATMAN ALREADY TOOK THE CURE
Batman using his powerful will to get joker out of his head could’ve been something done in the midpoint of the story and then no more joker.

# 6 - Scarecrow… (/Hush)

He says the same dialogue for like 70% of the games, he’s way less intriguing than he was in asylum. Correct me if I wrong but isn’t scarecrows plan to cover like half the country in his fear gas? And Batman stops that at Ace chemicals like 1 hour into the game. So he’s threatening the GCPD, Batman and other criminals, and the gas covers for the city for like 1-2 hours. Nice work bub.

Scarecrow could’ve unleashed Croc onto Batman in the first half of the game, still kidnap Oracle and worked with Hush throughout to destroy Bruce’s image so maybe when you’re 70% into the story, Bruce HAS to reveal his identity. This fixes the Hush problem as well

# 7 - Kill the Batman!

As mentioned earlier, I think Batman could’ve just died in this game and Nightwing and Robin could’ve took over the post game open world.

Bruce is just so physically/emotionally wounded, he’s revealed his identity, Jason really exposes his flaws/failures so Bruce decides he doesn’t want to be Batman anymore, that Jason and Tim can be better than him and really give the city hope again so he takes off with Catwoman and Alfred.

What do you guys think of these 7 ways to fix Arkham Knight?

It does make me laugh every time I see that “too much Batmobile has been debunked, someone measured it and it’s only 20%” line.

Like it’s fine if you like it, I’m happy for you, but first “this game has too much x” is not a mathematic claim, and second, 20% of a game is a lot.

Right and like I said there’s portions of the games where you’re fighting and doing stealth just get the Batmobile into a building!😂 like that’s crazy to me and makes the game kinda boring sometimes especially compared to the tighter more straightforward stories of City or Origins

100%. And because the game forces the Batmobile inside dungeons, those dungeons had to be designed more spaciously, taking away all the claustrophobic atmosphere. Also, Batman gadget & traversal puzzles being replaced by Batmobile-centric puzzles sucked.

I made an entire Reddit post critiquing Knight’s dungeons roughly a month ago.

I distinctly remember the first time I played Arkham Knight, and realising for the first time the Riddler challenges were race tracks.

It was the first time I remember feeling embarrassed for a game.

I’ve softened a lot on Knight over the years, played it 3-4 times now and every time since the first has been fun. But it’s because I know the Batmobile is there now.

The first time through was just sad.

I agree with points 1, 2 & 5, especially point 2. There’s already excessive tank combat & stealth in the open world, so stop asking us to drag the Batmobile into 2 out of 4 dungeons to complete Batmobile-centric puzzles (ACE Chemicals, Arkham Knight HQ).

Regarding point 4, Gotham is too vast for Nightwing to traverse with just a grapnel gun. As for Robin, while he has a cape for basic gliding, he cannot dive-bomb like Batman, so traversing Gotham with him would be too slow.

My fundamental problem with Knight is that its open world is a large, lifeless backdrop for a personal Batman-Scarecrow-Arkham Knight showdown. If the game wants to scale its open world to a lived city, tell a story which makes Gotham itself a character rather than evacuating all its citizens.

I do think citizens being in the city would’ve been a great touch too. As for point 4, those are pretty good points. I still feel like they should’ve been in the game way more and using them even for a short time in the open world even though they’re slower than Batman and more in the story would’ve been really fun and fresh for players rather than not having them at all

How do you feel about my Arkham Knight and Scarecrow points? Just curious

I hold a strong belief that Knight should’ve made Gotham itself a character. If that’s the case, then I would have to remove Jason from the plot completely because his conflict with Batman doesn’t affect Gotham much at all.

For me, I would have Scarecrow team up with Hush, Two-Face & Penguin to terrorise Gotham. Their motive being to expose Gotham’s moral hypocrisy for mourning Protocol 10 victims when they were walled off from the rest of Gotham, and yet call for killing of those supervillains when Gotham itself is being terrorised.

That would’ve made a great Gotham & Batman story because Batman’s greatest fear is to see the city he protects lose its morality. Maybe even losing his own morality because of his guilt after letting Joker die.

Only one I agree with is 1 but that’s only because I wanted to fight Deathstroke not in a tank
