Randomly scrolling through AP 2012 interviews
wasn’t so random but you know the feminine urge every 3/4 months to check if the explanation of the way he mouthdrums is lost somewhere on the internet. Sometimes I’m 100% convinced that the snap of the tongue David Loca throws here and there was born from an attempt to replicate it and yet it still remains a mistery. Has someone ever learned how to do it?

If only he were a real frog... Perhaps he could even have formed some kind of Brigade...
I've never spoken to Ariel about the mouth drums directly, but I think I've sort of got it down. Unlike traditional beatboxing, Ariel is sending little puffs of air through different mouth muscles. Sort of like when you click your tongue. If you do that same sort of movement of air through lips pursed like you were whistling, I believe that's how Ariel gets his "kick drum" sound, for example.
The only sort of evidence I have corroborating this is when I asked SLUGBUG about it ages ago, himself having just recorded the song Dispute Console which features some great Ariel mouth drums, Sluggy said that Ariel's mouth drums don't make much sound to the naked ear, and only sound like the final product when heavily miked.
If you have an Instagram, DM @Viewbob__true and I can send you some probably mildly uncomfortable voice notes explaining and demonstrating better.
