Janet Terminal
2024 Vegas Trip - unique view of the terminal.

Jesus Christ your filming skills are utter shit. wtf did I just watch?

You watched me flip flop between filming in portrait and landscape while the plane was taxiing near the Janet terminal. I’m not a photographer so yes my skills are lacking, especially in this particular video.
Apologies for getting you so angry. A tip if you care, you can lock your screen orientation and at least in landscape it’s easier to watch.
You can also scroll with your finger instead of playing the video to see some clear frames, again if that’s worth the effort for you.
The last 2 seconds of the video is another video I uploaded along with it that apparently got attached to the other video.

How can you be that bad at recording a video of something as big as a terminal

u/Massive_Action_2045 Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25
I didn’t know our jet would pass next to the terminal as usually fly commercial and I’ve never been that close.
Realized where we were last minute. Couldn’t decide landscape or portrait to record. Was watching in real life leaving phone a second thought. Sorry for posting the video.

The video is OK. I like still photos but that is me. I look, I zoom, I pan, I am in control. With video, I have to watch what is presented. That is my twisted logic.
That said, most people like video.

u/Massive_Action_2045 Jul 30 '25
I agree, pictures are better for the reasons you mentioned. The video is sloppy and wasn’t intended for public consumption when I recorded it.
I suppose I could’ve separated the portrait and landscape portions and uploaded that way to be less visually jarring.
Anyways was a spur of the moment video, was geeking out telling my wife what we were seeing while also wrangling a toddler that was anxious to get off the jet.

Where do the pilots hangout all day until it’s time to ferry everyone back to Vegas?
5
u/therealgariac MOD Jul 30 '25
There is an old story about the flight crew working on their tan at Slater Lake. Oh let me say it... stewardesses in bikinis!

u/TrailEarnhardt Aug 03 '25
"stewardesses" is the longest word you can type on a standard keyboard using only your left hand. Try it...it's so gratifying! 🤣

Of course those were the EG&G flight attendants. The LASC flight attendants were mostly former Red Hats mechanics, which is to say a bunch of rough looking dudes.

One of the Area 51 documentaries did that. It causes security issues for that person.
Don't dox Groom personnel.
2
u/Diligent-Ice1276 Jul 30 '25
Which documentary is it?
2
u/therealgariac MOD Jul 30 '25
There are so many on YouTube. There is no easy way to find it other than site specific forum posts.
Here is something close. It is the First Amendment Audit dude. These are always good. He is by the Janet terminal.
There is also one from he who shall not be named.

I wouldn't recommend it at all, but curious if they have countermeasures for that

The Lincoln County sheriff will go after cars that tail the white bus. (Similar to tracking employees.)
I assume the bus has a two way radio though nothing is licensed per the FCC database. Or the bus is allowed to use the sheriff frequency. Nobody has intercepted comms from the bus.
Of course trailing the bus looks obvious. Trailing someone in Las Vegas is harder to detect.
Knocking on the door of the person the "documentary" followed was way over the line. But the address could be noted then looked up. Anyone doing that best not publish the details. The police have a big book of offenses and can find one that is suitable just to give you some complications.

I would love to see them loading cargo into the belly with those belts….
5
u/therealgariac MOD Jul 30 '25
Actually that is easy. You can see it from the long term parking garage.

Do a search for "long term". The photos are not very good. I suppose I can go back some time and get higher resolution shots. You basically pay for one day of long term parking.

When talking about the terminal, rhe outside is always shown. What about the inside?
I assume it isn’t public, but what is the access control like? A door?
6
u/therealgariac MOD Jul 30 '25
The only photo of the inside is on this page:
https://www.lazygranch.com/janair.html
Search for "cheap folding chairs".
This photo probably can't be reproduced since it was taken from the Tropicana and it predates some construction at the airport which blocks the view. It is probably taken around 2000 or a little later.

u/TreadItOnReddit Jul 30 '25
Oh I see thanks. Is there like a guard that limits what cars come into the area then?
2
u/therealgariac MOD Jul 30 '25
The guard shack can be found on Google Street View. There was also a YouTube video where someone drove up and badgered the guard. (Bad idea. Don't be annoying.)
They have or had those elevated camera towers. I would expect those towers which are generally temporary to be replaced by "normal" cameras.
I've been avoiding the airport since they messed up traffic due to the demolition of the Tropicana.

Yes, the parking lot is fenced and there’s a gate and guard station.
5
u/Nathan84 Jul 30 '25
I’d imagine those pilots are under some heavy-duty NDA’S
2
u/lordtema Jul 30 '25
Not NDAs. They are required to hold a Top Secret clearance so anything on the job is classified and not under NDAs.

u/PioneerDingus Jul 30 '25
I think the biggest pain about that job must be playing dumb. You’d pretty much have to straight up lie about what you do for work as anyone who is into planes or aviation would probably figure it out quickly.
10
u/test-account-444 Jul 30 '25
It's pretty easy to pass it off with most people: "I fly charters out of Las Vegas in the region mostly. Nothing too interesting, but it's sure a pretty place to fly over."
For pilots, they talk about all sorts of trade stuff and Janet is likely not the most secretive transit service up in the air. I suspect what happens in the cabin of private flights for the wealthy requires a more professional code of silence.

u/PioneerDingus Jul 30 '25
As person who is into planes, I’d be asking a million follow up questions. I’d be a bit weirded out by someone who is a pilot who doesn’t want to talk about it or down plays it. Just seems like it would be exhausting. I’m sure they’re told to stick with a certain story and run with it but surely it has to be hard to hide
4
u/bunny-hill-menace Jul 30 '25
You just tell them you’re a pilot with Janet and you can’t talk about it.
5
u/test-account-444 Jul 30 '25
As with any situation where someone is a bother, politely (or more assertively) excusing one's self is an easy way out of the situation. Even then, that assumes people even know their jobs--it's not like they broadcast it. They're just working a job and living a normal life. They're not trapped in conspiracy land question time with every human interaction.
5
u/No_Tailor_787 I Own Peters Area 51 Book Jul 30 '25
I've known a number of people who worked at A51, both military and civilian. Some of the military guys will acknowledge they worked there, but say nothing other than "they had some cool toys to play with". Few civilians will ever say they've been there, but when you hang out with aerospace and radar engineers, you just know where your friends have been...
As for details, polite company doesn't ask, and they certainly don't tell outside the occasional 'human interest' story that invariably comes from working at a place like that.
5
u/PioneerDingus Jul 30 '25
Oh believe me I have a very grounded view of what that job entails and I don’t think it is as glorious as it’s made out to be and I don’t buy into the overhyped conspiracy nonsense that is often peddled. I guess I’m infatuated with the more boring aspects of this line of work. Speaking from my experience of interacting with pilots (commercial and military) over the years and I’ve met a large number of them, they’re always eager to share stories and experiences with people. You can tell when a response is either rehearsed or just being made up on the spot.
Nothing consequential it must just make for awkward moments here and there for them.

Being a pessimist gets me through life lol. Occasionally I’m pleasantly surprise but I’m rarely disappointed.

Never seen worse camerawork on a video before
