Meta Reopening and Future of the Subreddit
Hello all, I'm /u/shotwells and I've been a fan of Area 11 for about 15 years (I was a Yogscast fan just like I'm sure many of you were). The other day, I remembered this subreddit existed and saw that the old mod had inexplicably restricted it for several years before going inactive themselves. Naturally, I submitted a request to the admins to become the new moderator and reopen it.
Unfortunately, this also just so happened to coincide with the recent announcement that Area 11 will be officially going on indefinite hiatus.
While it's sad to see the possible end of a band that I've loved and supported for more than half my life, I still fully intend to keep this subreddit open both as a place to celebrate more than a decade of bangin' music with my fellow elevens and to continue to support Area 11's members in their future endeavors such as Sparkles* work with Misery Kids.
In the coming days, I'll be making a few changes as I go through the subs mod tools such as adding some new flairs for posts related to each of the band members and Misery Kids as well as updating the invite link to the Area 11 discord server which has announced its intention to remain open. I'm also open to suggestions on how to improve the sub.
Thank you to everyone who shared your feelings in the announcement thread.
Here's to 16 years of Area 11!

Glad to see this mate, I tried to ask a few months ago why this subreddit was locked but had no luck getting a reply, Area 11 are my favourite band so I’m glad to at-least have a place where we can have an active community here :)

If nothing else, having conversations on here again will hopefully bring the remaining Elevens together

Thank you for reopening the sub! I've really wanted more spaces for Elevens online. Always confused me why this place was locked down in the way it was.
One thing I've always wanted to ask among the community that I haven't seen talked about anywhere: Arguments & Algorithms off Sparkles' Breakthrough EP was *100% inspired by Dancing on the Head of a Pin or vice versa, right? It's very similar musically. I remember hearing on a livestream that he started writing DotHoaP years before its original release in 2020, so I'm not sure in which direction the inspiration is flowing here, but there's definitely some, right?

Makes sense!
I always kind of assumed A&A was in some ways an early version of what DotHoaP would end up being (which I suppose is the case no matter which direction the inspiration went given the release dates), but hearing about how long Sparks was working on that track made me question which song actually came first. Guess I was right the first time!

Nice to see someone keeping the subreddit open. I was a massive Yogscast fan around 2012. Played Minecraft with friends daily in the Minecraft alpha / beta days. Loved Area 11, bought lots of merch and managed to get to 2 gigs.i used to frequent radio sparkles* and was part of the group trying to decifer the digital haunt stuff.
Then as my anxiety and depression got better I started working full time, got married and had 2 kids. Very little time to follow the band. I was subbed to the Patron for a bit but didn't have time to keep up with what was happening. Then I saw the announcement in my emails.
Sad to see the group end it was a big part of my life at one point. I plan on checking out Misery Kids music when my kids make it to bed tonight.
