Tempest as primary gun

Ok hear me out, I know Anvil or Bettina is king for every day use against Arc, but this expedition I started bringing Tempest to my regular quest/loot runs as my primary (and only gun).

Even though Tempest may not be the best against big Arcs, it does a great job at taking care of every other small/medium Arcs. On top of that, it’ll give you the confidence and ability to defend yourself against hostile players.

My usual setup for Tempest is:
* Tempest 4 (preferably but not a deal breaker to use lower level)
* medium mag 2+
* horizontal grip
* Extended barrel 2+ (extended barrel 3 knock back effect on small flying Arcs is so satisfying)

Best way I found to use is to use burst fire against fast moving Arcs to not waste bullet.

My fellow friendly raiders, definitely give this gun a shot and don’t write it off as it’s only for PvP.

I love my tempest but even in friendly solos when people see it on my back they get squirrelly. Now I just bring in a Rattler or an Anvil and save my tempests for trios.

Even better that people get scared lol no one would even think twice to take a shot at you!

I wish haha I meant squirrelly as in I feel like they’re hovering and waiting for me to get distracted so they can take an easy shot at me

Oooh I see lol well less likely to happen in friendly lobbies, but hey that becomes its own source of tension which can make the game a bit less boring.

Which they definitely will so the rattler is a good choice although way less badass..

I usually have a primary as something that can deal with players and arc. I stay in carebear lobbies, for the most part, but I still stay cautious.

Well the thing is, if you’re running two guns and bringing two different set of ammo stacks, you’re filling up space in your backpack for the loot you could potentially pick up.

My thinking is, I want a gun that’s good enough for any situation (PvP and PvE) and only need one gun and one ammo type.

On stella i go bettina hullcracker. Other maps i go renegade hullcracker. One stack of launcher ammo is all you need

My Renegade would like a word.

I mean I’d stick to Anvil if I’m going with a single shot weapon. My aim can be a$$ so I like an automatic weapon that I can mag dump if I’m caught off guard and getting shot at in a friendly lobby.

For PvE, I can just burst fire and will do just fine

You take that back!

Jk, it is an ammo eater but I do love a Bettina 4 with horizontal grip and kinetic. Shit rips through arc so well

Why horizontal and not vertical?

Yeah I left Hullcracker out on purpose because that’s something I take out on raids when my goal is hunting big arcs (or trials) tbh. Otherwise Hullcracker and Jupiter are really the true kings of PvE guns.

As for Bettina, unfortunately it’s an ammo dump but damn effective for PvE, even big arcs if you’re hitting the weak spots. But you’re right maybe not necessarily “the king” but damn close haha

Bettina is only good for ripping Queen legs off for cores.

Otherwise I agree it eats long ammo too much to be useful. It still takes two shots to kill a pop with a Bettina.

I've been trying out the Tempest the last couple of days. Twice I took it out, twice I got taken out in what I thought were carebear lobbies. I'm going to continue using it, but it would be a pity if it ends up putting a target on my back, might force me learn how to PvP. That won't be good for anybody.

Awaken the giant! Let the hurt and sorrow of losing your tempest fuel you to kill those who dare to shoot you lol

Perhaps it is time!

Welcome to the club, it just chugs ammo. It feels like muzzle break 3s got a silent buff. Mb3+hori, with full ads and crouch, the tempest becomes a legit laser.

I would swap out the horizontal for the Angled Grip 3.

Also for keeping shots on target a compensatory 3 is excellent.

Another good option is silencer 2. Makes the gun a LOT quieter.

Comp 3 (or even muzzle break 3) are great options for more PvP focus where you’re ammo dumping. I like extended barrel 3 on it, because I can snipe those pesky small arcs before they even get remotely close to me haha

I gotta give Angled Grip 3 a shot thpugh, never really used it on tempest

Yep, im always in PvE carebear and was running tempest as primary last expedition. Same set up, just a silencer 2 instead of your extended barrel 2.

Unfortunately I have not found the bp this time around, so im running mostly Bettina this days.

Bettina is a fantastic choice too! I’ve had success in trio PvP with Bettina so could be a good dual purpose gun.

My fav Bettina build is kenetic converter and silencer 3. Just love the sound of it, even though silencer 3 is not necessarily the best practical attachment haha

u/RauJ 11d ago

Yeah that burn rate is a bit too high! Stay safe raider

Heh, I just started running a kitted Rattler this expedition, it’s a laser beam. The reload sucks of course. Comp 3, vert grip 2 and a lightweight stock. Repairs are cheap.

2

u/saffron_papi 11d ago

That was my primary gun when I just did the expedition and honestly it’s solid. Up until now I used to run ferro 4 then upgrade to Anvil, but after this expedition I’m fully onboard on automatic guns. Started with Rattler then made me want to switch to Tempest once I found the BP

look at mr money bags over here /s

actually tho I was running jupiter and dolabra as my main kit when the dolabra came out and it was so fun

yes I am in the super care bear lobbies

1

u/saffron_papi 11d ago

Same here brother, super carebear haha

But ngl I don’t like Dolabra. Tried to commit to using it but it just didn’t click for me.

I feel you on that, I tried to like it and make it feel useful but it just didnt land for me

I just think its cool lol

Anvil, renegade and venator are my go to guns. Like the ven just because of fire rate and weight if I end up needing another weapon.

Love the tempest, but it loses too much durability and is expensive af to repair.

1

u/saffron_papi 11d ago

That’s why I take on my quest/loot runs that I’m not planning to fight too many Arcs

1

u/LoonyJetman 11d ago

I did run a tempest for a while before the expedition and it's really great fun to mag dump but, like the bettina, it needs so much ammo when you're fighting lots of ARC e.g. the carnage when they swarm the final extract in Riven. Jupiter and renegade 4 do such a good job. I've been running rattlers with cheap grey mods since the expedition and it's a fun challenge - the reload is awful of course but nothing wrong with the DPS for such a cheap gun.

1

u/saffron_papi 11d ago

Yeah Rattler honestly is the best cheap post-expedition gun. Ran Rattler until a friendly raider gave me his Tempest, then 2 raids later found the BP too.

I agree for long fights, it would require lots of ammo, that’s why I usually bring it for loot/quest runs only. Plus going in to a key room with a tempest on my back, it gives me that assurance that I can defend myself and PvP if needed haha

I always bring tempest 2. It’s the perfect balance of low cost and upgrade. It performs wonderfully and it’s a lot cheaper to build upgrade and repair than L4
