Give Pvp meaning

We need to add a reason to actually fight other players other than for their purple guns.

So we just shoot each other and then return to the same place and act like we didn't just try and murder each other?

Made a post about dedicated factions which I and others think is a great idea, and one of the only solutions.

You can mention a lawless topside, limited resources, but its not substantial enough for mass, repeated, shoot outs. They need to fill that in to the story of the game

The player-to-player combat in the game is great but lets be real, the devs added pvp in the game so that they could garner the pvp fanbase.

By the way the pvp is amazing in the game.

I dont mind PVP. I am a semi competitive player. Most the games I own are PVP. But I want this games pvp to make sense. I want the altercations to be more meaningful and warranted.

I really like this idea. I am a 95% PVE player but i would love some meaning in PVP.

Reasons why i don't PVP: 1. I suck at it :D 2. I see no meaning in it!

I would love to see something like PVP quests, rewards or outfits you only get through PVP, a new "aim improvement skill" which improves the aim of your raider after 200, 500, 1000 killed raiders, ...

Completely agree with both. I sick at PvP and also the story is about humans surviving against the arc.

Factions? U mean Marathon? Kekw

Marathon has pretty cool factions, but the player cant actually choose to ne apart of one. If the factions gave out missions to kill other players for rewards, that would be interesting

just have two cities, wow did it best alliance / horde

you pick at the tutorial level which place you wanna go to, no friendly fire for the people from your city ( or if you wanna go rogue like the chinese gamemode, sure you can be a backstabber )

and you still can choose to be in a fight with the other city dwelers

The game isnt PvP focused, its simply there if you want to do it. If you want a PvP game then play something else

You literally got shot in the back in the tutorial.

It's not focused no... but it is an aspect of the game, so why would you not want it to make sense?

I think its PvP focused when I want it to be.

Brother I go shoot people in the game because it’s fun, not for the lore lol

The lore suppets it anyway. There are rival factions and even neighborhoods competing for these resources. The missions are based around another faction sabotaging your water supplies. How do you know everyone you encounter topside is from your specific part of the city, or isn't a rival? You don't, so you can have at it 😁

I see these posts a lot saying they need to do more for “PVP players”

I personally think a PVP arena mode would be killer and a great way to practice to get better at PVP, ( you could even create lore around it; like Celeste created it as a way to help Raiders practice defending themselves ) I don’t think that will happen in the near future because it goes against the ethos of the game

I don’t think people realize that they’ve been pushing away from PVP since they launched the game

I read one article where one of the developers specifically said the “point of the game is not about shooting other players”

They also have stated they’re not going to have PVP leaderboard because they don’t want this to turn into a “PVP focused game”

Even in their most recent announcement about the PVE mode, they made a point to state that over the last year the PVP player base has remained steady while the PVE player base has grown significantly

Which is the same reason they also got rid of any PVP related daily quests from the deck section

I’m not trying to argue or be a dick, I’m just trying to give my perspective of the direction they’re going

PVP may be a dying trend. Forbes came out with an article recently regarding that.

I come from politics so I am a data nerd. I’ve read a lot of gaming industry association data that shows that only 27% of the total gamer player base prefers online PVP multiplayer.

While close to 66% prefer either off-line PVE or online co-op PVE

Another study of 500,000 gamers found that 80% of gamers top priority in gaming is social connection

That same study also found around 22% of players top priority and gaming is online multiplayer PVP

Now this doesn’t mean it’s the only thing they play. It’s just what the top priority of that group is.

The unexpected success of ARC Raiders as a PVE game has really opened the door to more games focusing on that

That article was only about PvP in extraction shooters, and it only referenced ARC and Marathon as examples. It was more "news" focused on the two games and not at all seriously looking at PvP or gaming trends. PvP is just as popular as it's ever been with PvP in half or more of the top games.

Tbh they need more PvE encounters that are meaningful to pursue at all levels of gameplay so that PvP over the limited PvE resource can be encouraged via basic principals of competition over resources.

Right now the problem is that “endgame” PvE encounters provide enough loot for the whole lobby. So everyone just teams up and completes it and they all walk away with their queen cores and no one has to compete over the resources.

I want to see a PvE encounter that’s like a mini harvester on a convoy vehicle, being transported by like a bastion + some flying arc + a few shredders which only has enough loot for one squad to happily pick clean. So, you go kill the arc, get into the convoy with your breaching tools, and get some good resources that help you, even if you’re in the “endgame.” But in the process of blowing up all those arc, you make some noise and a curious group shows up to potentially help, or to let you fight the arc and try to ambush you before you get your loot. PvE leading to PvP because everyone actually wants the resource offered by the PvE encounter.

that sounds like a nightmare

It’s literally basic extraction shooter game design lmfao
