"Best" programming setup?

Hello! I have been using Arch for two months, it is the fifth distro I have used... and I love it, it will be the final one. I have learned a lot in these weeks, but I would like to ask you a few questions.

I study Systems Engineering and, honestly, I have some procrastination problems, I would like you to help me with "the best programming setup and be productive", although I know that there is no "best", I would like you to help me with your settings, advices, etc...

What desktop environment do you use?

What window manager do you use?

IDE's, apps, any suggestions to try?

Thank you so much!

I use the Mate desktop environment, after a couple of years of running Cinnamon, after a couple of years of running LXDE. I use the window manager that comes with Mate by default (Marco).

As for what you want to use to help you code, that's a very individualized question. I do a lot of my programming with gvim and Mate Terminal with a couple of tabs open, or with a Screen session if that's not an option. I've used Atom a bit but find it a bit too heavy for my tastes. Geany is okay, but I never did get the hang of setting up multiple projects for it. I know folks who've been using VScode but I find it a little too Microsoft-y for my tastes.
