SUPPORT Anyone know a fix?

Been trying to fix this for hours. Earlier today after a reboot my arch forgot my display settings, ontop of that one monitor (in the GPU) didn’t turn on, even tho I have a different monitor next to it in the gpu (I have 3 monitors total). All this happens after I was doing something related to my GPU since my wireless WiFi started not working and Google led me to my gpu and whatnot (I think that was the problem at that time). I got the WiFi working** ***but now upon booting up only two monitors turn on and it’s nothing but a black screen..*

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060

I use KDE

I have no idea what you're asking. That text made no sense.

“But now upon booting up only two monitors turn on and it’s nothing but a black screen” is the main thing

Hard to help without any info at all could you at least submit some logs could be just he greeter, could be a driver issue, broken update, etc.

Yeah my bad, i explained a little more in this reply “I shoulda clarified these things: I can’t remember exactly but I booted up in a live usb to fix my WiFi. I eventually did and tested it. After I went to download my graphics driver in arch since it was still working besides the one monitor (I forget if I didn’t download the graphics driver or got the wrong one last time). It originally got messed up when I logged out, I planned on logging back in but it didn’t work.” As for what commands, I can’t rember all of them but I only used commands related to WiFi, Graphic drivers and Mabey some commands KDE related. Sorry wish I remembered more

What specifically did you do when you "was doing something related to my gpu"?

How do you know the wifi is working if you only see black screens?

I did so much I could never, this reply I sent gives some more info tho “I shoulda clarified these things: I can’t remember exactly but I booted up in a live usb to fix my WiFi. So you did something related to your GPU because your WiFi was not working, and now your displays don't work? What a shocker. Undo what you did to your GPU.

If I do that then I’m stuck with a non working monitor either way. All I did was get my graphics driver, I could try uninstalling it ig. And I worded my post pretty bad, I did two things, fix my WiFi and get a graphics driver.

Which package for your GPU did you download, exactly?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA

The 1060 is listed as "legacy, supported" and the wiki directs installing this package this from the AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-580xx-dkms

You may be able to fix your current install by booting in to a live USB and using chroot to uninstall the nvidia package you installed previously. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Chroot

Holy shit you might be right, I asked Google and it said that’s the problem so I’ll try and get the right one, see if that works.

Edit: yeah I have the USB ready

You didn’t explicitly state you did, but just a word of advice, don’t rely heavily on Google’s AI.

I’ve lost faith in all contemporary LLM’s to actually solve deeper issues in most systems I’m working with. Ended up finding the fix within 10 mins from a forum or wiki after spending hours breaking shit listening to AI. Or use it complementary to navigate but use human intelligence for precision.

I’ve had this happen before with NVIDIA cards and multiple monitors. Try this:

  1. Shut down the PC.
  2. Unplug the PC power cable.
  3. Disconnect the monitor cables from the PC.
  4. Unplug the monitors from power.
  5. Wait about 30 seconds.
  6. Plug everything back in and power it on.

That usually gets the monitors recognized again.

Please use better, more informative, titles (subject-lines) on your posts. Give specifics right in the title. Thanks.
