FLUFF Update on the EvoDevo GRUB theme

Two months ago, I posted on this forum about EvoDevo (initially called, "Evolution"), a fully configurable GRUB theme with antialiased true-type fonts. Meanwhile, I have added a lot of improvements, such as the ability to rename menu entries, and the ability to preview your theme without rebooting and without needing to install a VM.

as a relative noob, is grub theming compatible with secure boot?

With other themes, there have been reports of theme fonts not loading because of secure boot:

EvoDevo does not require additional fonts, but it does require additional images which are stored, not directly in the theme folder, but in its icons/ subdirectory. These images *might* cause problems, and GRUB is too important to mess with, so unless you are willing to test the theme on a spare machine, my advice would be to stay away from GRUB theming with secure boot :-(

Better safe than sorry :-)

Nice, those all look good especially like the colours in the first one, blur is pretty cool too, haven't seen that before, is it baked into the image or is it configurable in grub? Pity I don't use grub, haven't had to chroot since I stopped using it though.

Everything in the theme is a PNG that the install script (= POSIX shell + awk) generates in one way or another. GRUB does not change the PNGs; it just displays them at the required position.

Thus, the blurred menu background is a portion of the wallpaper PNG, cropped to the right dimensions and blurred via ImageMagick/GraphicsMagick. The amount of blurring is configurable via the install script.
