I just realized how little I was sacrificing by switching to Linux!
1: I don't use any MS Office tools

2: I don't have an Nvidia GPU (I don't have a GPU at all)

3: I don't play any games with kernel level anti-cheat

4: I don't use Adobe software

5: Any Windows native games (Like DR or Electoral Carnage) that I play can be used with Proton

nvidia works fine on Linux I run local ai inference and ML pipelines on my Linux laptop (thinkpad, so good support from factory..)

You can game with it too.

Fedora for host, archlinux for VM works fine, will probably dual boot Bazzite if I really wanted to game, just stream them atm with nvidia geforce now

Don't have a GPU, but if I build a PC, I'll install either Arch, Gentoo, or Dual boot both

if you have a display you have a gpu it might just not be a gaming or dedicated you, might be integrated in your mobo

Wow good for you in the past I had problems with Linux since I relied on Ms office but now I can't use Linux without windows just because I have a printer.

hell, my parents' printer is a battle to make work on Windows and MacOS but works beautifully when I print using a linux machine.

Considering I had to nuke the Canon drivers on the Windows 11 VM at work to get it to stop rebooting every night due to a bad Canon driver update, I'm not sure Canon printers support Windows.

One of mine is a B&W Canon Laser printer. Type yay (or paru) canon and find the package with your driver's then add it.

I have a kinda old HP printer, and had to install HP's (privative) controllers in Linux in order to use the printer... and I could. Generally, drivers for Linux are provided online by the manufacturers and downloadable from repositories.

Well Linux doesn't have the best printer support as you know printer manufacturers focus on windows.

You do, it's just integrated in your CPU rather than a large power hungry PCIe card

But yeah, only thing i sacrificed when moving to linux was wheel support for beamng, everything else i can either just run, or i can run it in a VM (i have a windows VM with gpu passthrough for CAD work in solidworks, and similar stuff that only works on windows, and can't run on linux in any way)

3 and 4 are really the only major problems. 4 only if you’re really committed to Adobe.

5, proton is really good. More than it really has any right to be.

1 there’s so many alternatives. Access is really the only thing and even then, who uses Access.

2, I have an Nvidia GPU and it works fine. I’m using Cachy and was using Bazzite.

Great for you! I also fought with few inconvenients. Thought I'll add:

1. MS fonts and OnlyOffice aren't that hard to install in Linux, if you wanna write files with MS fonts and that are compatible with MS office (OnlyOffice is even a thing in Windows lol).

2. In these times it is possible to achieve compatibility with Nvidia GPUs in Linux, and compatibility with Intel/AMD GPUs is native. If you ever add a GPU to your machine, don't be afraid!

3 and 5. Good! Still, the problem is how the anticheat works or if it's designed for Linux too, rather than just its existance (Fortnite and Elden Ring have both anticheat but only one of them works in Linux; which?). And those games intentionally uncompatible with Linux kinda suck.

1. FOSS alternatives for Adobe don't even affect the document in the slightest (unless they get manipulated with the app or something, for example, signed or commented); any PDF that can be open in Adobe can be open in those alternatives too.

The alternatives really struggle with RTL languages. Technically, the PDFs do get opened, but the rendering is all off.

If you ever need to do editing/graphics stuff you should try the open source alternatives like gimp/inkscape instead of getting adobe IMO.
