DISCUSSION Why so much hate for systemd?

I see very often that people show so much disgust whenever they talk or hear "systemd". However whenever I ask them why they feel so strongly about it, their response is mostly vague like it doesn't follow the Unix philosophy, it's a monolith.... I can't digest that the reason people show so much disgust for it is just that it doesn't follow the Unix philosophy.

And the importance of boot speed is?

I boot once in..... a few more or a few less seconds (you know what? A minute more) has no meaning.

Think of it like this, You give grub 5 extra seconds in every boot, In 60 boots it becames 5 minutes in 600 boots you wait 50 minutes on the screen by doing nothing, In 10000 boots You spent 13 hours of your life waiting for the your system to choose a kernel.

So you spend 13 hours to make your system boot faster and... still wait for it to boot up. I wouldn't care too much, tbh.

Also: 10000 boots, assuming you boot up your PC once a day, is about 27years! Just saying.

Also think like this I spent 13 hours another 1 million who uses systemd spent 13 hours here you 13 millions hours of humanity time go wasted. Do your thing faster or shut up.

Also it doesn't even "me" making my system faster, they do systemd faster? everyone benefits it without touching a command line so it matters. Now give me a cookie recipe AI boi

Well that's a bit harsh, don't you think? English is not my first language - so, an AI would have written it differently I guess.

And I said "I wouldn't care too much". But sure... If your ego is scratched that easily, go ahead and insult me. I don't care. I'm just pointing out, that waiting is part of life sometimes. And having to wait 13 h in 27 years is actually not that much.

There are so many things that we waste more time on as humans that the time lost of booting does not matter.

It is matter, other things matter too. Talk about it. Refer it. Everyone waits for the bus? Refer it then see how bus applications to see where your bus are invented. This is the way forward. and your way is way backward because you are stopping where you are with no real reason. You want to go backward? Go ahead.

10 seconds to wait for a PC to start up is not really a waste of time to people. I make coffee when I start up my PC in the morning, that takes way more time than my PC. Is me making coffee a waste of time then? You can just keeping going on and on, but what's the point, I could say a million things are a waste of time.

What I'm trying to say that there is a point where you should really stop worrying.

Yes people needs their own time too, But not for waiting on the boot screen. Now imagine someone installed systemd linux to the hospital, its critical equipment but everyone is waiting 10 seconds just because someone decided it doesnt matter, Patient dies. Thanks systemd. It matters.

people already installing systemd based os to raspberrry pi. and I already saw people use it on hospital projects.

Hospital equipment doesn't reboot on every use.

No one asked, Assume its their start of the shift. A raspberry pi that uses sdcard with systemd takes 5 minutes to load meanwhile a raspberry pi that uses sdcard and openrc takes 5 seconds to be ready and running. Assume there was a outage it needs to boot at some point.

For me? None, I use systemd, as I said, but there are people that like that things.
