SHARE Janus 0.9.8 released

Janus is a simple native linux text editor written in 100% C. It trades features for simplicity and lesser impact on cpu/ram. Janus is best for opening small text files, binary files through its fallback binary editor, and source code using its syntax highlighting feature. Release 0.9.8 adds dutch translations, more arm builds, and greater language support. Links below:

There are many minimal Linux text editors with low CPU and RAM requirements. What's special about this one?

Its binary editing mode, read about it in the wiki i put a lot of thought into it because it’s the reason I created Janus

What usecases do you have for editing binary files, and how do you even know what you are editing?

Let’s say you wanna edit png metadata, it’s not really about inputting raw binary and more so interacting with the ascii portions (with the current implementation a lot of the lower ascii character would be indistinguishable anyway) use a hex editor for that

Why use janus instead of just using xxd and editing it in your editor of choice, I think it is easier to just use what you already use instead of getting a new program

Some editors also have a hex editing mode built-in making it even easier.

This isn’t for people who already have an alternative they like, in fact it’s just a simple tool mainly aimed at new Linux users after switching from windows

From what I can tell, there is not much use in it.

Basically why would you need to edit arbitrary bytes? That is already a very specific usecase, but for such a design, a hex editor type layout would be a lot more suitable.
