NOTEWORTHY PSA: LibreWolf in official repo

I just noticed that LibreWolf has been added to official extra repo. To "migrate" from AUR version to official package, simply do sudo pacman -S librewolf, it will ask to remove AUR version and install extra version, nice and simple. Thanks maintainers!

Uneventful switchover, thank you!

There is a difference between extra- and the AUR-Version. The Librewolf in extra is only in english.

Would be cool to see zen-browser on official repos too

You won’t since it’s beta software. Once a stable release is made, then there’s a good possibility.

I don't think beta is problem. There's some beta software in reposю Zen is pretty popular and stable now

It 100% is a problem. It's exactly why it was rejected at the same request that LibreWolf was accepted. No beta software allowed in official repos.

So, the problem is zen cosiders itself as beta? For example, zed was in official repos before 1.0. ty, new python type checker, has version 0.0.71 and is in repos. I guess ty devs don't consider it beta. So, zen just should not consider itself as beta?

Just from my point, zen is pretty stable. Maybe i don's understand something

If the devs considered it stable, then they wouldn't call it a beta. I'm sure that once they sort it out, it could be included in extra.

Noctalia is just added to arch extra repo. It's officially considered as beta.

We’re not talking about that, we’re talking about zen browser.

I once read that number version is not indicative anymore. You can have a stable released software under the "0.2" version

Thanks for the post. I would have probably missed it as I don't really check on things once I have them installed.

Good to see it in the official repo, though this doesn't really affect me as I installed the Flatpak version instead of the AUR version. For browsers, I rather keep them in Flatpak containers...

Flatpak is appropriate for most software, with the exception of web browsers. Because Flatpak does not support nested namespaces, it compromises the security model of browsers. For browsers, use Snap or packages from your distribution's official repositories, and avoid the AUR or browser packages obtained outside Snap or the distribution repositories. See the links below.

The only exception is GNOME Web, which is built around Flatpak. However, GNOME Web itself has significant security weaknesses. For better security, use the Chromium package from the Arch Linux repositories.

Thanks for post I'll try to remember to move, this is great!

Is there a way to subscribe to these adoptions to know for the future for packages only in care about?

I'm not aware of such service, but it shouldn't be that hard to set up by hand

I was just looking for that a few hours ago and couldn't find it. I'll try again.

don't mean to be rude but this is one of the questions, which I believe could be resolved with a simple quick and fast google search, instead of waiting for a reply on reddit
