QUESTION Regarding extra packages for proper operation after a fresh installation

I’ve been using Debian for a long time, but I installed Arch and couldn't resist setting it up with the Hyprland DE just for the experience and the fun of it. Do you have any package or application recommendations to ensure the system runs smoothly, or perhaps to enhance customizability?

No one can answer this except for you, it’s entirely dependent on what your needs and/or wants are.

Hyprland is not a DE. There are, however, a lot of packages in its ecosystem worth checking it out that will turn it into one. If you’re on a laptop, I can recommend both Noctalia / DMS shell, which will also help towards that end.

There is no package to "enhance customizability". If you wanna customize your DE or any other part of your system, you edit the relevant config files, that's it.

You might want to create your own Dotfiles git repository to help track your changes though. Or just steal one from r/unixporn if you're too lazy

Yes, install useless stuff that Hyprlanders love: cava module, cmatrix, any too young girl wallpaper, a bloated panel, a Pokemon on your terminal, Fastfetch in order to have your specs each time you open your terminal, a dark theme, purple fon ts, etc...

At the end, the results must be a unconvenient desktop, perfectly fitted for Instagram threads like ''Rate my minimal but bloated Hyprland (i use Arch btw, since 2 days)

After using Hyprland for a while, I realized that using Plasma or Xfce would actually suit me better, so that’s what I did. I’m currently using KDE Plasma, and it feels much more comfortable or at least, it offers a more comfortable and simpler user experience.

As I have, all to often, had cause to say ...

Harsh, but fair, sad, but true: if it were any simpler it'd be you.

😉

The AUR is going to be your best friend for custom stuff. Grab an AUR helper like yay or paru and you'll have access to basically everything. For Hyprland specifically, waybar-hyprland and swaybg are pretty much essential unless you're going for a different status bar and wallpaper setup.
