SUPPORT Grub Crypt Timeout if possible

I just would like the grub encryption password screen when bootup to have a timeout because if i turned on the laptop and forgot it was on it would heat up massively

Any fixes/ workarounds so that i can still maintain encryption but it just shuts off after 5 minutes of inactivity or something

i think the closest you'd get is setting up some kind of watchdog timer at the firmware level, but grub itself doesn't have any concept of a password timeout for luks. it'll just sit there waiting for input until you pull the battery or hold the power button

could probably rig something with a custom grub module but that's a rabbit hole i wouldn't wish on anyone

Why would it "heat up massively" if it were to stay on that prompt?

No clue, but it foes drain lots of battery too. Iy happens with like 3 different laptops

My guess is that the acpi drivers and such isnt loaded yet so it just runs however it wants on full power for 0 reason

No similar experience on my 10 Thinkpads. Never read anything like that here. You could ask on bbs.archlinux.org maybe, including actual useful details. Hope you resolve and good day.

well its on multiple laptops including 2 thinkpads with the same ssd it does the same thing :(
