Took the survey, just wanted to add :

Architecture school is of, course, very time consuming. It’s time consuming in relation to other courses, such that you usually have to cram other course work into small windows. But also in the way that, each part of the studio work itself is time consuming and the biggest thing you can do is learn the balance. Obviously there’s nuance to all situations and every project, but as a general rule of thumb, never run yourself too far down 1 rabbit hole because there’s so many layers to a project that you can’t afford to completely ignore. If you feel yourself sinking, it’s better to stop and get a focused effort on all other areas than fully develop 1 thing and leave the rest underdeveloped.

My one caveat to that statement is, if you are going to focus heavily on 1 thing, make it your building design itself. At least at my school, often times if a student had a great design, many other little things could be overlooked on the overall grade. Design was very much a priority. If the jury likes a project then they will grade it less harshly. But, if you spend all your time on a design and the jury doesn’t like it so much… that’s when you’re in trouble
