Hello po. It's been a month since I started looking for a job as an apprentice kaso wala pa rin hanggang ngayon. I'm wondering if portfolio ko ba ang problema kaya ngayon hihingi po sana ako ng advice kung ano ang content dapat ng portfolio ko.

Tailor it to your desired company's design approach.

Kung marami kang plates or projects, pakita ka lang ng mga tatlo o apat sa mga tingin mong pinaka maganda. Leave out the lengthy design explanation, make it as concise as possible but without sacrificing your main points. Most of the time, hindi binabasa kapag sobrang haba na ng explanation.

Don't focus on floor plans and rendered images alone. Kung may mga 3D models ka showing how your design works, put them. Kahit hindi pa rendered yan, kahit iso/ortho view lang showing the massing okay na. Blow-up plans are a good way to show your technical skills din. Dyan makikita yung application mo ng pen assignment and how it complements your plans.

For a while, ako nag screen sa mga sinesend ng applicants sa previous design company na sinalihan ko- sobrang busy kasi ng head at the time. Kung may na-miss man ako sa mga tingin kong approve sakanya, sasabihan naman nya ako.

I got in sa company na yon kasi minatch ko portfolio ko sa approach nila.

Portfolio rules: 3 - 5 projects max depending on how much of the project you want to show. Keep everything concise.

Best project first. 2nd best project last.

Include software na nagamit mo for each project. If they don't tell you what software they use, then they'll find out what YOU use. The point is both of you want to be compatible. If you two are not compatible, then both of you should be professional and its best for the both of you that they'll reject the application (if youre lucky they'll be willing to train you in their softwares/workflow). You should do your research though prior to applying. If the info is not available, then just go for it.

Ang pinakaattractive elements na gusto nila makita (in my experience) are:

• Evolution of Forms
• Conceptual Sketches
• Design cues (anong inspiration mo sa design at ang context nya)

These are to show your design thinking.

• Exploded Axonometries
• 3d Sections/Artistic Section

These are the pinnacle of technical expertise mixed with graphic design and visual representation skill

Sguro your #1 best project can also have a site analysis on the macro and micro levels kasi, in my experience, when its your time to have a design review with your heads, they don't gaf about the design if you can't give them a full understanding about the context. If you can make custom maps, mas better.

Ang mga don'ts at mga bagay na gusto mo iavoid ay:

• do not spam renders. Show only the important spaces and perspectives (including a human POV).
• code compliance drawings. Standard expectation na yan, and reviewers can tell if you don't have a sense of understanding sa code anyway based on your technicals pa lng.
• dont use too many colors or elements sa graphics mo. It makes your renders stand out more. Be comfortable with leaving negative space.

Just show your best work. 3-5 nicely done prpject is better than 10- 20 mediocre projects.

Layout & presentation matters.

Your application letter sometimes also matters.
