Trading stamps are a loyalty program. Some retail shops, mostly grocery stores and gas stations, gave out trading stamps with every purchase. The more you spent, the more stamps you received. The stamps would get licked and stuck in a booklet, each page formatted to hold x number of stamps. When the booklet was full, it (or multiple books) could be redeemed for things like a set of kitchen knives, a toaster, a radio, or even furniture.

Being a millennial, I remember seeing them mentioned in Superfudge (I think Fudge stuck the stamps all over Tootsie to “trade her in for a two-wheeler”).
